Method Statement for Leakage Testing of Gravity Sewer Line

Introduction: Leakage Test to be conducted for Gravity Sewer line as per Technical Specification
–Sewerage System Works of Contract No : (AGM) 438-WS/PRIV/2017/51 under the clause no
3.12.8.5

Equipment and Tools Required:

1. Water tank with Pump


2. Raiser Pipe
3. Measuring Scale
4. End Plugs (Balloon)
5. Stop Watch
6. Transparent tubes

Procedure to conduct test:

On completion of laying of pipes and construction of consecutive two manholes, LE-Triveni JV will
test the pipes and manhole for leaks. The ends of the pipes will be plugged. A riser pipe will be
installed in the pipeline to be tested. The raiser pipe will be used to monitor the leaks. The pipe
shall be filled until the water level in the tube is 1 .5m above the invert of the pipe and monitored
for 30 minutes after waiting for two hours to stabilize. The drop in level must not be more than
4.5mm per meter length tested. Water for testing shall be provided by contractor and water used
for testing will not be saline.

For the Pipeline from Manhole to Manhole without any hose connection in between: There will be
one end of (down Stream) would be plugged tightly with the Balloon and another end (Up Stream) will
be plugged by a Balloon with a transparent raiser pipe.. Then water shall be poured from upstream till
the required Hight. Loss of water to be measured as per specification.

For the Pipeline between Clear out and manhole: The raiser pipe will be installed at Clean-out and
other end of the pipeline to be tested will be plugged with a Balloon. The pipeline is filled water through
the raiser. Loss of water to be measured as per specification.

For the Pipeline from Manhole to manhole with one or more house connection in between:

The raiser pipe will be installed at 110mm dia house connection line and the both ends of the pipeline to
be tested will be plugged with Balloons. The pipeline is filled water through the raiser. Loss of water to
be measured as per specification.

Conclusion : All the leak test will be inspected and witnessed by Riyan. The record will be maintained.
