Blended Learning Lesson Plan

Lesson Title: 2nd Grade Introduction to Soccer

Objectives:
Students will be able to perform basic soccer skills
Students will be able to understand the basic rules of soccer
State Standards:
 Standard 4: The physically literate individual exhibits responsible personal and social
behavior that respects self and others in physical-activity settings.
 2-4.2 Support and work cooperatively with others to complete an assigned physical education
task

Context:
I am teaching this particular lesson because it is one of the big sports and a great form of
physical education which can help the students to stay physically active. As well as this, it also
gives the students a chance to work together and gives them the opportunity to work on life skills
such as teamwork and other life skills of that nature. The lesson before this was basketball and
this is a part of the larger lesson of keeping students active to promote health and fitness.
Students will bring in knowledge of teamwork that they previously learned in the other lessons. I
will continue to teach the students more and more about sportsmanship and teamwork because
this will help them to work better with others as well as learn more about respect and how it can
translate to the real world.
Data:
Students will be grouped based on their previous skills from past lessons. More athletic students
will be put in a different group from those with less ability so that drills are fair and that
everyone can learn to the best ability. As well as this, during games the teams will be fairly split
with special rules to help get everyone in the class involved. As students perform in this lesson,
their performances will be recorded to help for the lessons in the future. For example, some
students may be better at a certain sport than others and with this data it can help us get an
understanding for what position or what sports they may be good at in future lessons.
Materials:
Soccer balls, cones, Ipads with quizlet so that students can work on the lesson materials. These
materials will be used for the 3 separate parts of the lesson to help the students get an
understanding for the game of soccer.
Procedures:
Introduction (10 minutes):
This will be the very first lesson for this particular unit. Students will have previously completed
a pre-quiz prior to coming into the class so that I have an understanding of where they are
knowledge wise before they arrive for the first day of the lesson. Once this is done, I will have an
understanding of what students know and what students need to learn, and this can help me to
address the class before we start the lesson to clarify anything that they struggled with or didn’t
understand. Once, this is done I will show a introduction to soccer YouTube video and explain
what we will be doing during this particular lesson for the day and split the students up into their
assigned groups. This is done so that people who learn different ways all have a great chance to
understand the lesson before it starts. (YouTube Video https://www.youtube.com/watch?

Teacher Directed (10 minutes):

During this part of the lesson the teacher will accompany the students because this will be
where students work on the skills such as passing, dribbling, and shooting. This is an
introduction day so the students will work on all the skills to get a feel for what they will be
learning during this unit. Students will get a try at dribbling and certain dribble moves. They will
also work on shooting at a target. Then they will stand in a group and work on passing the ball
between each other while a couple students stand as defenders. (For a group of 4, 2 students will
be defenders. 2:1 ratio). This will be directed by the teacher so that the students have supervision
and can be helped if needed to get good form and knowledge on the skills being performed.

Collaborative (10 minutes):

Students will work together in this section by playing small games with fairly split up teams.
This will help them to get a feel for the game of soccer in a game setting. This will also help the
students to work on sportsmanship and teamwork which are always two big things that are
emphasized during the physical education lessons. Students will have a chance to work on all the
skills and get a feel for the game of soccer. Also, there will be certain rules so that everyone can
get involved during this game. The rules are that at least 3 people must touch the ball before a
goal is scored and as well as this, the ball must not be shot over the chest to make sure everyone
stays safe and no one gets hurt. With the 10-minute time period this should give the students
enough time to get a feel for the game of soccer and help them to get an understanding for the
rest of the unit ahead.
Independent Digital (10 minutes):
In this section of the lesson students will work on ipads learning more about the current unit of
soccer. There will be a quiz set created that will be on the unit and all the parts that I want the
students to learn and understand for their overall knowledge of soccer. As well as learning these
flashcards, there are many study tools and quizzes available on quizlet for the set created.
Students will have 10 minutes, and this will help them to get a better overall cognitive
understanding of the unit of soccer.
Closure (10 minutes):
I will wrap up the class by going over what we did and asking the students what they learned and
some strategies that they used during the introduction lesson for the day. This will help students
by explaining why we did this and also strategies that their peers used that they may be able to
use in the future. We will also talk about how we worked in groups and ways we can improve
this and sportsmanship. This will be the final wrap up for the class.
Rationale:
Quizlet is the first use of multimedia that we used in this lesson. This app promotes student
learning through flashcards for learning the material as well as many other features such as
quizzes and study tools. This app can help students to prepare for a test or learn material for a
lesson like we used in this lesson. This app is high quality because of the usage and the
recognition that it has throughout schools. This app/website is used by many schools and it can
be used for almost anything. A quiz set is very easy to create and it is free to use.

The second use of multimedia is a YouTube video that is an introduction to soccer, and this is a
good use of multimedia because of it helps to explain the sport of soccer and this will be better
for those who are more visual learners. This is a high-quality website that produces good videos,
and this is a good source of multimedia. This video will help to apply to visual learners so that
they can understand just as well as other learners.
