This project involves planting a breadnut tree in the author's yard in Aringay, La Union, Philippines. The tree was planted on December 3, 2019 to promote responsible stewardship of the environment. The tree will help provide shade, absorb carbon dioxide, and prevent flooding and landslides. Monitoring the tree's growth monthly will document its development. The project benefits the community by providing these environmental services, benefits the family by becoming part of it, and benefits the author by teaching responsibility and care for God's creation.

I. PROJECT TITLE

“TREE PARENTING”

A. Date Started: December 3, 2019

II. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT

A. Rationale/ Background Information

The plant that was planted is the Breadnut (Artocarpus camansi) and has the local
name of Camansi or Pakak here in the Philippines. This tree produces a fruit that is
spiky and has globular green color and it grows in tropical regions and coastal
provinces. The reason why this plant is because it is endemic in our country and it can
be easily maintained. It grows big really quick and it can survive harsh conditions.
The plant was planted at our yard in Sta. Rita East, Aringay, La Union. The sole
witness of this tree planting project is my father, Oscar P. Osillos. This project
symbolizes our care and showing importance to our Lord’s creation. We do this as
our way to show our gratitude to our Creator for sustaining us every day and the
project also symbolizes our hope to live in harmony with Him.
III. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROJECT

A. Community
This project can bring significant difference to my community because it can help
my community to initiate projects like this. From this project, if it gets recognized by
my community, it will protect my community from hot weather, it gives shade to my
neighbors and it can protect us from calamities like flood, landslide and others.

B. Family
This project can bring significant difference to my family because it serves as a
recreational activity for my family and it can relieve stress through this kind of
project. It also brings tranquility to my family because the green leaves of the tree
make my family free from stress just by looking at it.

C. Self
This project can bring significant difference to me as an individual because it
gives me a relief by taking good care of my plant. It feels good when I do something
like this project. It can also be my pastime whenever I have nothing better to do or
when I’m done reviewing my lessons.
IV. MONITORING

A. Monthly Monitoring Of Growth (After Two Weeks)

DECEMBER 2019

December 3, 2019

The plant was planted one year prior to begin documenting the plant for the project. The
plant may be big but in reality, that is a year old tree and it takes time to bear a fruit. It will take
5-10 years to bear a fruit. Its big leaves are really useful in providing shade for the nearby people
in my community.
V. IMPACT OF THE PROJECT

A. Community
This project has great impact to my community because the plant undergoes
photosynthesis where it absorbs carbon dioxide coming from the people living in my
community and turns it into oxygen that is useful for the people in my community in
sustaining them. It also absorbs excess water especially when raining and thus it
prevents flooding and also landslide.

B. Family
This project has great impact to my family because the tree that was planted is
like a part of my family. Since it becomes a part of my family, it should be treated
like one by watering it every day and letting itself grow on its own and not interfering
its growth and development.

C. Self
This project has great impact to me as an individual. From this project, it taught
me about how to be a better person by planting a tree and I learned that we should
take responsibility to our Lord’s creations and we are the ones who should take care
of everything He created.
