Environmental Protection

The document discusses environmental protection and the importance of individual action. It states that while authorities play a role, protecting the environment starts with everyday decisions like not littering, using public transport, recycling selectively, and being mindful of energy and resource use. Failure to address issues like air and water pollution, deforestation, and the greenhouse effect could lead to global catastrophe. The document encourages collecting rubbish selectively, using recycling programs, and supporting state efforts to promote more environmentally friendly practices.

ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

In recent years there have been a lot of talks about environmental pollution and protection.
If you hear the word „environmental pollution” you think of factories, plants, cars and buses.
Chimneys are spouting black smoke and cars giving off grey toxic fumes. Most of us think
that to protect the environment is the task of the authorities and environmental protectors.
We shrug our shoulders when we hear or read that all of us could and should do something
for our environment. Protection of the environment starts in everyday life. Beer cans,
cigarette packets and paper tissues shouldn’t be thrown away on the spot. We should collect
the rubbish selectively, use public transports, don’t waste the water and use energy saving
bulbs. Trees shouldn’t be cut down. Remember the old saying: „If you cut down a tree, plant
a new one.” Healthy woods take up the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and they clear the
air. But if we don’t protect our woods from used oil and the car exhaust fumes, the carbon
dioxide content of the atmosphere rises enormously high and so develops a greenhouse
effect and the earth will become hotter and hotter. Global catastrophe will be unavoidable.
Batteries shouldn’t be dropped into litter baskets. We should use a system of selective
rubbish collection. We collect paper, plastic and glass selectively. In the filled of
environmental protection there is an important word : recycling. By recycling the important
materials are reused from the trash. In this way we can save money and energy as well.

There has been more and more damage to the environment since the increase of the world’s
population and industry. I have heard of air, water and soil pollution. In general, the larger
the city the higher the degree of air pollution, which is caused mainly by factories or by
fumes from cars and from other means of transport. Even rivers are dirtier in a city than in
the country. All types of pollution can be very dangerous for plants and animals as well as for
human health. This is why we must avoid polluting our environment in any way. Acid rain is
caused by air pollution can be very dangerous for plants and animals as well as for human
health. This is why we must avoid polluting our environment in any way. Acid rain is caused
by air pollution. Floods are caused by cutting down trees. The other consequence of
warming up is that seasons are changing all the time. Polluted rivers flow into the oceans
and seas so they poison wild life plants and animals. So species die out. Different chemicals
have damaged the ozone layer.
Cutting down forest also „helps” the problem. Because of the very hot, dry summers fires
often occur in different places like fields, woods and in bushes.

There are more and more steps being taken in our country to enable everyday people to be
environmentally friendly. The state itself tries to persuade citizens to recycle. If you pay for
having your rubbish taken away, you have to pay less if there is less rubbish in your dustbin.
In Hungary there are different colors of dustbins at more and more local housing estate. We
should collect our rubbishes separately e.g. glasses, paper, plastic, dangerous litters etc. The
first thing I can do is that I don’t litter the streets. There’s selective waste collection in the
area where I live. I also pay attention to buying products which have been recycled and I
always ask the shop assistants not to put the products into plastic for me.
