7:15pm Warm-Up​ ​ (15 min)


Small Group Introductions
Hey Diddle Diddle (focus: cat, laughed, ran) (also: cow, moon, spoon)
- Whole Class
- Small Groups Present (Groups A, B, C D)
Through our warm-up, we meet and greet our classmates to establish a supportive
learning community. We then practice suprasegmental aspects of language
(rhythm, sentence stress) using poetry.
Materials: Hey Diddle Diddle (handouts & slide)

7:30pm Activity 1 - Reading & Writing Race (30 min)


Review
- Prepositions: on, under, in, next to
- Objects: keys, pencil, pens, paper, book, desk, chair, floor, wall
- Sentence: The pencil is on the book.
Reading Race
- Students read sentences in small groups (Groups A, B, C, D)
Ie. “The pencil is on the book.”
- Students move the objects to match the sentences.
Writing Race
- Teacher moves the objects into a new formation.
- Brief review “is” and “are”
- Students write descriptive sentences.
- Correct as a group.
In this activity, we practice reading and writing in collaborative teams.
Materials: Handout; keys/pencil/pens/paper/books; doc cam
8:00pm Activity 2 - Describe Your Bedroom (30 min)
Picture Talk
- Students discuss the picture in small groups.
- Share discussion with the class.
- Teacher asks questions:
- How many….?
- What color….?
- Where is……?
Picture Write
- Fill-in-the-blank as a class
- Read in Partners
Homework Share
- Read in Partners
In this activity, we practice describing a scene (written and verbally) as a class and
in pairs.
Materials: Slide, handout, homework

8:30pm Break (10 minutes)

8:40pm Activity 3 - Grammar Reference (15 minutes)


Grammar Reference Book
- Complete pages 7-10 (plural nouns, there is/there are)
In this section, we document some of the previously addressed grammar rules to
use as a future reference.
Materials: Doc Cam, Grammar Book

8:55pm Rhythm Chant (10 minutes)


One Two, Buckle My Shoe
- Whole Class
- Two Groups
We “get moving” during the second half of class to re-energize. We do a rhythm
chant (standing up! Stomping is welcomed). We practice clear pronunciation of
cardinal numbers and suprasegmental language features.

9:05pm Activity 4 - Phonics Practice (15 minutes)


Sam The Cat
Jan and the Apple
We practice reading simple stories in partners (focusing on the short a sound). The
teacher will ask comprehension questions as a group.
Materials: handout, doc cam

9:20pm Assessment (15 minutes)


Teacher will lead a brief individual assessment with reading, writing, and listening
components.
