ACTION PLAN
PSBRC RTC11 CL2020-02 CHARLIE
Barangay: MINTAL, DAVAO CITY
I. Status/Present Situation of the Community

Earthquakes are usually caused when rock underground suddenly breaks along a fault.
This sudden release of energy causes the seismic waves that make the ground shake. Thus,
Philippines lies along the Pacific Ring of Fire which causes the country to have frequent
seismic and volcanic activity. Many earthquakes of smaller magnitude occur very regularly
due to the meeting of major tectonic plates in the region. In connection, this paper will give
emphasis to Barangay Mintal as this area lies on top of the active Dacudao fault line.

Mintal is a Barangay in Davao City. It’s population as determine by the 2015 Census
was 13,227. This presented 0.81% of the total population of Davao City. According to 2015
Census, the age of group with highest population in Mintal is 15 to 19 with 1,428
individuals. Conversely, the age of group with the lowest population is 80 and over, with
116 individuals. The population of Mintal grew from 6,832 in 1990 to 13,227 in 2015, an
increase of 6,395 people. The latest Census figures in 2015 denote a positive growth rate of
1.05% or an increase of 709 people, from the previous population of 12,518 in 2010.

As we observe the data stated above, Barangay Mintal is a developing barangay and we
can expect that businesses and additional residential sites will be constructed. In addition,
there is a high possibility that there are recent settlers that are already residing along these
fault lines. With this, it denotes that the higher the population, the more lives are at risk
when earthquake strikes. Though there is no technology that could predict an impending
earthquake, we aspire to prepare the people of Barangay Mintal always ready when this
destructive earthquake occurs.

This study aims to provide important and reliable activities to be conducted with the
active participation of Philippine National Police in order to help the community be
knowledgeable enough on how to address and respond to this disaster. Moreover, this is to
heightened their awareness, involvement and responsibility as a community in times of
catastrophe.

2. Increasing population caused by migration of downtown residents.
