Writing Evaluation

Assignment
Topic:

For this assignment, your topic is to write about a health-related experience that has
impacted you. You might choose an experience that initiated or confirmed your decision to
pursue a career in the health field.  It may be something that changed your perspective or
impacted your character in some way.  Some ideas may include a health-related volunteer, co-
op, or job experience. Your topic could also relate to a direct or indirect experience with an
illness or injury. This will be a cause-and-effect paragraph, NOT a narrative (In other words,
do not merely describe the experience.) Also, be sure to write about only ONE experience. In
your paragraph, you must focus on HOW you were impacted by the experience. You will
need three supporting points, each providing one reason or way you were impacted.

This assignment is based on your personal experience, so supplementary research is neither

expected nor required; however, you may choose to support a point you are making with a
statistic or example. Please provide the sources (web page, journal, book, or otherwise) for
supplementary information in your paragraph.

Your paragraph should be a minimum of 275 words and a maximum of 350 words. This
assignment is worth 17.5% of your final mark.

Your assignment should be submitted to the Writing Evaluation Assignment folder in our DC
Connect course shell. The assignment is due during week 12. Please be sure to submit by
the specific due date posted in our DC Connect course shell. The late penalty is 10% per day
up to a maximum of 3 days late. (See evaluation rubric below)
Please be sure to carefully review the evaluation rubric. This will give you a clear sense of
how your assignment will be evaluated.
