ENGLISH TASK (WRITE TASK)

Asked to Write a report for a university, lecturer describing the


information shown below.
(Please choose 3 of 7 cases and write at least 150 words every case).

1. The First Case

The chart graph above shows Imprisonment sentences in five


different countries namely The Great Britain, Australia, New
Zealand, the United States and Canada in 1930-1980. Based on the
bar graph presented, the number of Imprisonmenters in the United
States and in Canada is relatively higher than the other three
countries. When reviewed from 1930 to 1960, the total number of
Imprisonmenters in the Great Britain was the lowest among the
other four countries.
While in the period 1930-1980, the number of Imprisonments from
the four countries (except Great Britain) increased and decreased.
The highest number of Imprisonments for the Australia was in 1930
and the lowest in 1980.
For United States and Canada, the highest number of
Imprisonments were in 1980 and 1930, while the lowest was in the
same year in 1970.
Interestingly in 1970, three countries including the Great Britain,
Australia and New Zealand had the same number of Imprisonments
which were around 65 Imprisonments.
In summary, the number of Imprisonmenters that always increased
from the period 1930-1980 only occurred in the Great Britain, while
other countries sometimes experienced an increase or decrease in
the number of Imprisonmenters.

The table above compares the percentage of households in Britain


with the range of durable consumers from 1972 to 1983
Overall, the percentage of households in Britain continued to
increase between 1972 and 1983. The biggest increase was
telephone, up by 35%, from 42% in 1972 to 77% in 1983. While
the largest percentage of households was television in 1983 which
almost reached 100 percent.
Additionally, the percentage of central heating, rise from 39% of
households in 1972 to 64% in 1983. For the percentage of
households with refrigerator increased from 73% to 94% in 1983.
Similarly, other households such as television and washing machine
increased by 5% and 14% respectively.
For households with vacuum cleaner also increased by 8% only until
1982. But there was no percentage in 1983. Such as vacuum
cleaner, dishwasher also increased by 2% in 1978-1983. However,
the percentage of households with video has not increased, since it
only existed in 1983 by 18%.
3. The Third Case

The bar chart above displays a comparison of the number of mobile


phones and landlines per 100 people in seven countries, two
American countries and five European countries.
Generally, the number of mobile phones and landlines in european
countries is higher than in the American countries for 4 out of 7
countries shown.
For the highest number of mobile phones is Italy, with the number
of 90 mobile phones per 100 people. Meanwhile, the lowest number
is Canada with a number below 40 per 100 people.
in addition, for the highest number of landlines is denmark, with the
number of almost 90 landlines per 100 people and the lowest is
Italy which is less than 50 per 100 people
So in conclusion, european countries (Germany, UK, sweden and
italy) are dominated by the number of mobile phones, except
Denmark. Meanwhile, the American countries (Canada and US) is
more dominated by the number of landlines compared to mobile
phones per 100 people.
4. The Fourth Case

The bar chart above shows the estimated world illiteracy rate by
region and gender for 2000.
In general, the world's illiteracy rate is dominated more by female
than male for the six areas shown. For sub-Sharan Africa, Arab
States and South Asian countries have high percentages, although
low percentages are East Asia/Oceania and Latin
America/Carribean, especially developed countries that have very
low rates (below 10 percent).
For male illiteracy rates in 6 areas are shown. The lowest rates are
in developed countries (around 1 percent), Latin America/Caribbean
(around 10 percent) and East Asia/Oceania (around 8 percent).
while for the next three areas it is much higher and not much
different. Sub-Saharan Africa (around 31 percent, Arab Countries
(around 29 percent) and south asia (around 34 percent).
In addition, female illiteracy rates were higher relatively in six
areas. The lowest rates are also found in Developed Countries, Latin
America /Caribbean and East Asia/Oceania with rates of around 2
percent, 11 percent and 20 percent. Similarly to male rates, the
next three areas are much higher and not much different. Sub-
Saharan Africa, Arab states and South Asia have consecutive rates
of around 48 percent, 52 percent and 55 percent.
5. The Fifth Case

The graph shows people Visits to two new music sites on the web
over a fifteen-day period of music choice and pop parade.

Starting with a review of the Music Choice website graphic (blue


graph), 40,000 people was visited new music sites on the first day.
Half of them didn't visit the next day. On the other hand, for the
pop parade website chart (red graph) was visited by 120,000
people on the first day and slightly decreased the next day.
However, it improved again on the third day.

After third day, enthusiastic visitors for both types of music


declined slowly reaching the lowest point of 40,000 visitors on
seventh day for music choice. While the lowest point for the pop
parade on the fourth, seventh and ninth day reached 20,000
visitors.

In the second week, enthusiastic visitors for both types of music


began to increase again. This can be seen for the music choice that
increases after ninth day. Meanwhile, the pop parade began to
increase after the eleventh day.

At the end of the period (the fifteenth day) the Pop parade site
was visited by around 170,000 people, while the site on the Music
choice was only visited by almost 80,000 people after declining the
previous day.
6. The Sixth Case

The bar chart presents information on factors affecting employee


work performance in the 18-30 and 45-60 age groups as revealed
in a survey by the personnel departments of large companies.

Generally, a relatively larger percentage of employees in the 45 to


60 age group prefer competent bosses and respect from
colleagues. Both groups give equal importance to team spirit and
work environment. Groups of 18 to 30 give more value to the
remaining factors.

For employee groups between the age of 18 and 30 provides the


greatest choice for opportunities for personal development. This is
followed by a relaxed work environment and promotional prospects
that affect the performance of approximately 82 percent and 80
percent of individuals, respectively. This group provides the least
important for the work environment.

On the other hand, the 45 to 60 year old age group, gives the
greatest value for money. Team spirit impacts the performance of
more than 60 percent of people in this group and this is followed
by competent boss factors. This group provides the least important
for job security.
7. The Seventh Case

The graph shows the preferred leisure activities of Australian


children aged 5-14 years (male and female). There are five leisure
activities selected by Australian children including are
Skateboarding or Rollerblading, Bike riding, watching TV or videos,
Electronic or computer games and the last are art and craft.

Based on the look of the chart, all boys and girls state that they
enjoy watching TV or video in their spare time. The activity has a
percentage of 100%.

In addition, the second most popular activity is playing electronic


or computer games with a percentage of about 80% for boys and
60% for girls.

The boys also prefer Skateboarding or Rollerblading and Bike


riding activities. While older girls choose activities such as arts and
crafts that almost reach 60%. While among men the activity is less
popular because it is not more than 40%.

The conclusion is that Skateboarding or Rollerblading and Bike


riding activities and electronic or computer games are more
preferred by a boys, while girls prefer arts and crafts. It can also
be said that watching tv and video is the most preferred activity
for Australian children aged 5-14.
