Chapter 7 Video Response
Chapter 7 Video Response
Observing teachers in action is an important part of understanding what it means to be a teacher. Watch the
videos listed for this module and review all of the written materials that accompany them. Choose one of the
videos to reflect on. Use this form to respond to the prompts as they relate to your chosen video. Connect our
chapter reading to your observation reflection.
Which video did you I chose to reflect on Communicating with Others at School-Case 563.
choose to reflect on?
How is technology The teacher uses technology such as an interactive white board to show her
embedded in instruction students videos to demonstrate how the students should communicate with others.
to support student
learning?
How is the use of The teacher first plays the video all the way through and allows the students to
technology furthering watch it. She then plays it a second time where they stop at certain points and
student learning with discuss. I think this is important because the first time the students watch the video
the content focus? they are really able to take the video in and see it for what it is, The next time they
are able to discuss and ask any questions they may have. By observing the video
they are able to see a real scenario of how to communicate with others.
Do the students appear I do think the students are engaged in learning because they are attentive and
to be engaged in watching the video and then are demonstrating what they learned.
learning as a result of
the use of technology?
How do you know/what
is the evidence of this?
Our book shares some ideas about how to best utilize technology in the classroom (pages 116-117; 121-122). What
evidence did you see in the video or read in the commentary of how the teacher accomplished this? For each
of the following techniques, describe how they were used in the instruction.
Assistive technology The teacher used an interactive white board to show the students the video about
what they will be learning. She uses the interactive to pause, play and stop the video.
Simulation The simulation is the teacher having the students act out a scenario in which could
be applied to the outside world.
Modeling She uses modeling with her two students to demonstrate how to communicate with
others.
Real world problems The video the teacher showed her students demonstrates a real-world problem, how
to speak with others (how to say hello).
Community of learners I did not see anything in the video or commentary that displays that the teacher has
something set for an online community of learners.
How could this lesson be adapted to an online-only platform? Give one brief example below.
Online platform This could be adapted to an online-only platform by grouping students into sets of
adaptation two or three and having them act out what they saw in the video while the teacher
goes around to the groups of students to see if they are doing it correctly and to
ensure they are learning.
Teachers are always learning from each other. Classroom observations are an important part of developing a
rich, reflective, and effective practice.
Share one question you How much training did it take to be able to use the interactive whiteboards (if there
have about teaching as was any training required)?
it relates to this
observation.
Share three things you I have learned that interactive whiteboards can be very useful for student learning in
have learned from this the classroom.
observation. I have learned that having students watch the videos I chose for class once all the
way through and then another time stopping and discussing can be very useful.
I have learned that having real world problems worked into your lesson can help with
students understanding of topics.
