FAQ’S - INDIGO CADET PILOT PROGRAM – L3HARRIS

1. WHAT IS THE INDIGO CADET PILOT PROGRAM?

a. The IndiGo Cadet Pilot Programs have been established to cater to the growing global
need for new pilots. We invite young men and women who have passed their 12th or
graduated from college and aspire to be airline pilots. It involves training the candidate in
2 phases so that she/he can act as a Jr. Co-pilot with IndiGo.

b. The first phase provides the required training to obtain an Indian Commercial Pilot
License (CPL) with Multi Engine (ME) and Instrument Rating (IR), followed by the second
phase, which is Type Rating training for qualifying on the Airbus A320.

c. In our partnership with L3HARRIS, the initial CPL phase of training will be conducted at
L3HARRIS Airline Academy in Sanford, Florida, US and the conversion from FAA license to
Indian CPL will be done in India at a training center approved by IndiGo.

2. WHAT ARE THE ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA TO APPLY TO THE PROGRAM?

a. Applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered for the IndiGo program:

i. Aged between 18 and 32 years old and of Indian nationality or holding an OCI card;

ii. Achieved a minimum score of 51% each in Physics, Mathematics & English in (10+2)
exam*;

iii. Possess a valid Indian Class I medical certificate** (No Limitations);

iv. Be in good physical condition with appropriate weight and height;

v. Be fluent in English - both written and verbal;

vi. Have "Unique-I.D." number/ registration number (U-I.D.) at the time of admission;

*10+2 with minimum score of 51% / Grade Point 6 / Grade C1 – Individually in each
subject i.e. Physics / Mathematics / English or a higher degree in the subjects with
minimum 51%.

**Candidates not possessing an Indian Class 1 medical can apply for the IndiGo
program with a Class II medical, however they must possess an Indian Class 1
medical prior to commencing the program.

Note: Applicants will be required to provide copies or proof of all documentation, certificates,
and mark sheets at Interview stage.

3. WHO WILL MAKE MY TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS?

a. All candidates are responsible for their own travel.

4. WHO WILL PAY FOR MY MEDICAL INSURANCE DURING TRAINING?


a. The candidate is responsible for bearing the cost of personal medical insurance during
his/her training. Cost is approximately USD $1500 for 12 months.

5. WHERE WILL I STAY DURING TRAINING AND WHO WILL ARRANGE IT?

a. L3HARRIS will make arrangements for your stay during the CPL phase. The cost is included
in the total fee.

b. Full board accommodation will be arranged by L3HARRIS for your flight license
conversion phase in India. Cost is included in the total fee.

c. Bed and Breakfast stay will be arranged by L3HARRIS during the advanced Type Rating
phase. Cost is included in the total fee.

6. WHO WILL ARRANGE FOR MY VISA FOR TRAINING?

a. L3HARRIS will facilitate the Visa process for your training in the US, but you will be
responsible for the cost to obtain your own visa & other necessary travel related
documents in relation to the training.

Note: The cadet must present a statement showing that they are able to support all
required expenses.

b. A320 type rating is conducted in Thailand, L3HARRIS will facilitate the Visa process.

7. HOW LONG IS THE PROGRAM?

a. The duration of the CPL training is planned at 19 months including conversion to the
Indian CPL; the Airbus A320 type rating is planned at an additional 2 months. However,
DGCA licensing, scheduling, and any other delays will extend the duration of the cadet
program by an estimated 2 to 3 months.

8. WILL UNIFORMS BE PROVIDED?

a. Yes, uniforms will be provided.

9. WHO WILL MEET ME ON ARRIVAL IN THE US?

a. An L3HARRIS student services representative will meet you at the designated housing
location when you arrive.

10. WHERE WILL I BE TRAINED FOR A320 TYPE RATING?

a. The A320 Type Rating training will be conducted at an L3HARRIS type rating training
center approved by IndiGo. Currently the plan is to conduct this training in AATC,
Thailand.

11. HOW MUCH IS THE SELECTION FEE?

a. £255 for a technical test, followed by an interview conducted in India.


12. IS THERE ANY PAPERWORK THAT I NEED TO SIGN WITH INDIGO?

a. At the time of signing the Cadet Pilot Agreement, the candidate is required to sign a
Specialized Training Agreement whereby the candidate commits to serve IndiGo for a
specified term, post successful completion of his/her training (both CPL & Type Rating).

13. WHAT IS THE TOTAL COST OF THE PROGRAM (ALL INCLUSIVE)?

a. The total cost for this program is USD $86,000 including taxes for the CPL part of the
training.
b. CPL License conversion in India USD $10,000
c. The Airbus A320 type rating training costs an additional USD $39,000

14. Is there an advantage for me to train in a foreign institute like L3HARRIS?

a. Trainee pilot gets a dual license: As part of the IndiGo Cadet Pilot Program with
L3HARRIS, you will graduate with a dual Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Indian
Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) Multi Engine Commercial Pilot License and
Instrument Rating (ME CPL/IR)

b. International Training Exposure: Cadets will begin their training experience in the US.
Post successful completion of this training you will be eligible for a FAA CPL which would
later be converted into a DGCA CPL. The program is designed to provide cadets with
international exposure both professionally and culturally so as to expand your horizons
and imbibe the best of diverse viewpoints and practices. We believe that this will stand
you in good stead in your subsequent professional development. Exposure to flying and
communicating at high density international traffic airports.

c. World class, state of the art training facilities with exposure to Global best practices.

d. Train in the World of Cadet Pilots: L3HARRIS trains pilots for various airlines such as
British Airways, JetStar, Qatar Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Jet Airways, EasyJet, FlyDubai,
Royal Brunei etc. Cadets trained at L3HARRIS get the opportunity to mix and mingle with
their contemporaries training for various airlines from all over the world as well as
qualified airline pilots who take up advanced training with L3HARRIS.

e. Round The Year Flying: Not only is Florida a beautiful location, particularly for aviators, it
also benefits from over 300 flyable days per year, making the training schedule quicker
and more predictable.

f. Hassle free Selection Process: L3HARRIS deeply focuses on selecting the right kind of
candidates for training expeditiously, in a hassle free manner.

g. Training Course: Trainees will be trained on dually approved syllabi. Initially you will
undergo training as per the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) syllabus and the later
phases will include Indian Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) recommended
parts of the syllabus to help in the license conversion process.

h. Uniform and equipment: All the necessary uniform and equipment required for you to
complete your training will be provided by L3HARRIS at no extra cost.

15. How many hours will I train on an actual aircraft?

a. For ME/IR CPL - Students will fly minimum 220 hours in an actual aircraft.

b. For Foreign License Conversion – Students will fly approx. 20 hours in an actual aircraft in
a DGCA approved Flight Training Academy.

16. What aircraft will I be training on?

a. Cadets will fly Cessna 172, SR 20, and DA42 (multi-engine) aircraft. All aircrafts are
equipped with modern “glass” cockpits and the latest avionics.

17. What is the weather like in Florida?

a. Our US Academy is located in sunny Central Florida, just north of Orlando and has year
round flying weather! The average temperature is 72.75 Fahrenheit (about 22.63 Celsius)
and we have over 300 flyable days per year! Central Florida has more than 90% Visual
Flight Rules flying days – which means essential conditions to facilitate a rapid pace
through our training program.
