A-1200/A-1210/A-2200 Web UI User Manual DRAFT 2 Getting started

2 Getting started
This manual describes how to use the Web User Interface (UI) to manage an
A-1200/ A-1210/ A-2200 device.

2.1 Introducing the Web User Interface

The Web UI is a user-friendly, web-based element manager designed to manage the
A-1200, A-1210, and A-2200 devices.
The Web UI provides the following benefits:
• Simple configuration and management of devices
• Execution of CLI commands via a web browser
• Graphical view of managed devices
• Interface management and monitoring
• Service management and monitoring
• File management
• Advanced monitoring of devices with:
– dynamically updated counters and charts
– summary information relating to all aspects of the device, including active
alarms, logs, port statuses, and resource utilization
The Web UI is automatically enabled by default; it may be disabled (or enabled) by
the user. Refer to “web-management admin-state” in the A-1200/A-1210/A-2200
Command Line Interface User Manual for information on how to enable/
disable the Web UI.

W Activating the Web UI (after it has been disabled) launches the web server but
does not cause the NE to reset.

As in the CLI, the Web UI supports the following three access levels:
• Admin
• Read-Write
• Read-Only
For further information regarding the different access levels, see “Access levels” in
the A-1200/A-1210/A-2200 Command Line Interface User Manual.

2.1.1 Prerequisites
The following basic requirements should be met in order to manage an
A-1200/ A-1210/ A-2200 device with the Web UI:
• Before accessing the Web UI, the user must ensure that a web browser is
installed on his/her computer. The Web UI supports the following browsers:
– Internet Explorer 7
– Internet Explorer 8 (recommended)
– Firefox 3.0 and above

PN: A25000-C1000-P004-01-7619
Issue: 01 Issue Date: September 2010 13
2 Getting started DRAFT A-1200/A-1210/A-2200 Web UI User Manual

• Access is only permitted from interfaces which operate as part of a management

E-LAN. For further information on configuring a management E-LAN service, see
“interface ethernet management” in the A-1200/A-1210/A-2200 Command Line
Interface User Manual.
• Login to the Web UI requires a username and password. For further information,
see Logging into the Web UI.

2.1.2 Client access

The client accesses the Web UI on an A-1200/ A-1210/ A-2200 device via a web
management server using either of the following protocols:
• HTTP (default)
• HTTPS
When the protocol mode is set to HTTP, the client can use both HTTP and HTTPS to
access the device. However, when the mode is set to HTTPS, only an HTTPS
connection is possible.

Changing the protocol mode after the Web UI has been enabled on the device
causes the web server to reset and disconnects all existing web management
W

sessions.

If the HTTPS protocol is to be used, a digitally-signed certificate file must be

downloaded and activated before the Web UI server is enabled. For further
information, see “Configuring HTTPS for the Web UI” in the A-1200/A-1210/A-2200
Command Line Interface User Manual.

When the Web UI is disabled on the device, the client cannot access the device
via HTTP or HTTPS. In this scenario, the web server is down.
W

2.2 Logging into the Web UI

A username and password is required for logging into the Web UI. There is one
predefined user account with username root and password root which must be
used for the first login. Figure 1 shows the Login page.

Figure 1 Web UI Login

After the first login, new user accounts can be defined. The Web UI uses the same
user accounts and passwords that were created for the CLI. For more information on
adding and deleting users, see “username” in the A-1200/A-1210/A-2200 Command
Line Interface User Manual.

2.3 Logging out of the Web UI

To log out of the Web UI:
Click Logout at the top of the Web page.

2.3.1 Automatic logout

Automatic logout occurs after a period of inactivity. The “web-management
inactivity-timer” (see the A-1200/A-1210/A-2200 Command Line Interface User
Manual) command enables the user to configure the idle time that will elapse before
a session is automatically disconnected.

2.4 Using the Web UI

Following successful login, the Dashboard page opens in the browser, displaying the
managed device. Figure 2 shows an example of the Dashboard page (refer to
Dashboard for examples of the A-1200, A-1210, and A-2200 devices).

4 Web CLI
This chapter provides information on the configuration and management operations
that can be performed from the Web CLI page.

4.1 Working in the Web CLI

The Web CLI page simplifies the process of command execution and eases the
management of the A-1200, A-1210, and A-2200 devices. It provides a user-friendly
alternative to the CLI, enabling the user to:
• run a command from the command tree
• run a CLI command
To open the Web CLI:
Click the Web CLI tab at the top of the page that is currently open; the Web CLI page
opens.

4.1.1 Using the command tree

The left pane in the Web CLI page displays a tree of all the commands supported by
the specific release of the managed device. Figure 8 displays an example of the
command tree.

Figure 8 Command tree

Issue: 01 Issue Date: September 2010 27
4 Web CLI DRAFT A-1200/A-1210/A-2200 Web UI User Manual

Commands in the tree are listed in folders in alphabetical order according to type.
The clear folder, for example, contains all the commands whose syntax begins with
clear. If multiple commands exist for a specific type, these are arranged in
subfolders, and where necessary, in nested subfolders, for example,
config-set service new n2n. The top level of the tree is called the root. Clicking
the root expands the tree to display the folders containing the commands.
To navigate to a command in the tree, do one of the following:
• Click the root to display all the folders. Click the required folder to display its
contents and, if necessary, click to open one or more subfolders. Navigate to the
relevant command.
Example: To navigate to the command config-set service new n2n, use the
following path: config-set -> service -> new -> n2n.
• Click the Expand All button to open all the folders and subfolders in the tree.
Navigate to the relevant command.
To close all the folders and subfolders in the tree, click the Collapse All
button.
• When the required command is contained in the config-set/set/show/clear folder,
open the folder by clicking the Config-set, Set, Show, or Clear button (located
beneath the tabs at the top of the page). In the open folder, click to open one or
more subfolders. Navigate to the command.
• Type a keyword in the search bar at the top of the tree; the required command is
displayed in the command tree, as shown in Figure 9.

Figure 9 Command search

• When the compatibility mode of the managed device is set to CET interop
(default), no commands relating to the CET mode are displayed. For further
information on compatibility modes, refer to “Compatibility mode” in the
A-1200/A-1210/A-2200 Command Line Interface User Manual.
• Commands that are restricted to a specific platform are only displayed when that
platform is managed.
• Commands that are restricted to a specific access level are only displayed when
a user with appropriate permission is logged on (see “Access levels” in the
A-1200/A-1210/A-2200 Command Line Interface User Manual”).

5.3.1 Service creation wizard

When the device is operating in CET mode, the service creation wizards simplifies
the service configuration process. The user can launch a dedicated wizard for each
service type. Tailored to the specific service type, each wizard comprises a series of
screens which guide the user through all the steps in the configuration process. The
number of steps and available parameters vary according to the service. If
necessary, the user may return to a previous step at any stage in the procedure.
As an alternative to the relevant service wizard, a specific service can be configured
using the regular method. Using this option, the user navigates in the command tree
to the config-set -> service -> new subfolder and clicks the required command
(see Web CLI for further details).
To launch a service wizard:
