LSGp Purpose
This Lab Setup Guide provides directions for installing, preparing, and verifying the lab
hardware and software in preparation for conducting a class of course CG13.
The Requirements sections of this document may also be used to determine the specific
hardware and software needed to conduct a class.

LSG Requirements
The following tables list the hardware, software, and other materials needed to set up a lab
to conduct a class of course CG13.

Hardware requirements
Table 1 lists the hardware needed to prepare one student lab set. When preparing for a
class, multiply the items below by the number of lab sets needed for the class.

Software requirements
Table 3 lists the software needed to prepare the student lab sets. When preparing for a
class, be sure you have the correct number of licensed copies of any non-IBM software.
A Windows compression tool is required to unzip the lab setup files. It is not required that
this software be added to the actual images.
One copy of VMWare 5.5 is required to create the VMWare image in which the exercises
will run.
VMPlayer, which is free, can be used to run the VMWare images when the class is being
taught.

Skills required to set up the lab


The following specialized skills are required to set up the lab:
• Ability to install and configure Windows XP Professional, specific skills required are:
- Apply Service Packs and fixes
• Installation skills for Windows XP-based products.
Although the DB2 configuration operations are automated, an understanding of creating
databases and updating configuration settings would be useful.

LSG Setup instructions

Configuration information
The following describes the configurations of the student and/or lab set systems.

Hardware setup instructions


Use the following information in addition to the normal hardware installation procedures to
set up the lab hardware.
No special hardware setup instructions.

Software setup instructions


Use the following information in addition to the normal software installation procedures to
set up the lab software.
__ 1. VMWare Workstation 5.5 needs to be installed. Just follow the installation
instructions for that software.

Operating system setup instructions


Use the following information in addition to the normal software installation procedures to
set up the lab software. The installation of the following will occur under VMWare.
__ 1. Install Windows XP Professional.
__ 2. Change the Administrator userid’s password to ibm2blue.
__ 3. Change the computer name to CG1301.
__ 4. Change the Workgroup to CG13.
__ 5. Install VMWare Tools. Boot the newly installed Windows XP system in VMWare,
then from the VMWare menu, select VM -> Install VMWare Tools...

Application setup instructions


__ 6. Install Adobe Acrobat Reader.
__ 7. Make sure that Internet Explorer has be successfully configured.
__ 8. Firefox can be installed if desired.
DB2 ESE 9
Follow the directions to install DB2 ESE 9.
__ 1. Choose to do a typical install.

__ 2. Specify to install the software on this computer.


__ 3. Change the installation directory to c:\sqllib.
__ 4. Choose a user name of db2admin. Specify the password to be ibm2blue.
__ 5. Do not prepare a DB2 Tools catalog.
__ 6. Uncheck to set up the server to send notifications.
__ 7. At the end of the installation, do not create a profile.
Activate the DB2 ESE and pureXML licenses
Use the Enterprise Server CPU Activation license and the DB2 pureXML Activation license.
__ 8. Open the License Center.
__ 9. Select your system.
__ 10. From the menu, click License -> Add.
__ 11. Add both the ESE and the Pure XML licenses.

Install the Developer’s Workbench


__ 12. Change the installation directory to c:\DWB\V9.1.
Install Microsoft Excel
__ 13. Only Excel needs to be installed.

Set up files
__ 14. Unzip CG131LabFiles.zip to C:\
__ 15. Create a Visuals directory on the C drive.
__ 16. Unzip CG131SHOW.zip to C:\Visuals.

Set up db2admin
__ 17. Log on as db2admin and configure Windows for that userid.

Verification procedures
There are no verification procedures.
