Trial SN B C e Log W18 W18 Million Subgrade (sn3) Subbase (sn2) Base (sn1)

This document provides a pavement design for an access road at Khalifa Port logistics phase 2 based on the Abu Dhabi pavement design manual and AASHTO guides. A flexible pavement design was analyzed using a projected 20-year traffic level of 51,100 trucks. The subgrade was assumed to have a California bearing ratio of 15%. The recommended design includes a 300mm subgrade improvement layer if weak subgrade is encountered, as well as a 15cm capillary break layer if the high active zone is within 1.5m of the pavement surface. The layered structural analysis determined thickness requirements to provide equivalent structural numbers for the subgrade, subbase and base layers to support the projected traffic loads over 20 years.

PAVEMENT DESIGN - LAYERED ANALYSIS (Interlock Block Pavement - Access road)
The flexible pavement design is primarily based on TR-513 Abu Dhabi pavement design manual and AASHTO guide for design of
pavement structures 1993. The truck traffic is assumed for access road for utility buildings and is computed in the calculation. The
design subgrade of 15% CBR has been used as provided in the Phase-1 project. It is recommended to use 300mm thick subgrade
Reference
improvement layer of granular material (CBR>30%) if weak ground having CBR less than 10 is within 0.5m of subgrade bottom level
is encountered. Capillary beak layer of 15cm to be used if the HAT is found wihtin 1.50m from top of paving level. Geogrid shall be
used in the base layer. The design life of 20 years considered.
