LECTURE TOPIC: BIOLOGICAL DIVERSITY & BIODIVERSITY LOSS

Activity 1

Self-study. By the end of this week you are expected to know the answers to these questions:

1. What are the major components of the earth’s biodiversity?


2. How does biological evolution work?
3. What is the difference between biomes & ecosystems?
4. Why is biodiversity important?
5. What are the threats to biodiversity?
6. What is the status of Philippine biodiversity?

The videos on pangolin and leatherback turtles will help you recognize the characteristics and
habitats of these critically endangered species as well as the threats.
The video on pollination will illustrate species interaction and the resulting ecological services.

Activity 2

Multiple choice quiz.


This will be conducted through UVLE on 29 Sep 2020. The quiz will cover lecture topics from
weeks 1-3.

Activity 3

Written report. Write a report to answer and discuss the following question:
What are the threats to Philippine biodiversity? Provide case studies. You may include tables
&/or figures. Cite the references.
This essay is worth 10 points and should be done by group. Your answer should not exceed two
pages A4 paper, using 12 font size and single spacing. Save your file in pdf with this format
SURNAME1, SURNAME2, SURNAME3, SURNAME4_Written report.pdf. Deadline of submission is
30 Sep 2020. Submit in the designated dropbox in UVLE.
