Indian Institute of Technology Delhi Reinforced Concrete Design, B. Tech. (Civil Engg.) Third Year Tutorial 4 (One-Way Continuous Slab, Two-Way Slab)

The document provides three tutorial problems for designing reinforced concrete slabs and beams. The first problem involves designing interior beams and slab reinforcement for a room with dimensions of 24m x 10m. The second problem tasks designing a simply supported slab covering a hall of size 4m x 6m. The third problem involves designing reinforcement for a square slab with three continuous edges and one discontinuous edge subjected to a factored uniform load.

Tutorial 4 (One-way continuous slab, Two-way slab)

1. Design a RCC beams and slab for a room having plan dimensions of 24 m × 10 m with 230 mm thick
brick masonry load bearing walls. The roof of the room will consist of the RCC slab and five RCC beam
spanning along the shorter dimensions. All the RCC beams are equally spaced from each other and their
width may be taken as 300 mm. In addition to its self-weight, the slab will carry a live load of 2 kN/m2
and a finish load of 1.5 kN/m2.
a. Design an interior beam (as a T-beam) for the roofing system. Detail reinforcement in the beam.
b. Detail reinforcement in the slab using simplified rules from SP:34. Use moment coefficients from the
IS:456.

2. Design a simply supported slab to cover a hall with clear internal dimensions of 4 m × 6 m. The slab is
supported on masonry walls 230 mm thick. Assume a live load of 3 kN/m2 and a finish load of 2 kN/m2.
Assume that the slab corners are free to lift up. Take moderate exposure condition, M25 grade concrete
and Fe415 grade steel. Detail the reinforcement in the slab using simplified rules from SP:34.

3. Design a square slab 5 m × 5 m, with three edges continuous and one discontinuous subjected to factored
UDL of 10 kN/m2. Take moderate exposure condition, M25 grade concrete and Fe415 grade steel. Detail
the reinforcement in the slab using simplified rules from SP:34.
