Week 5 Blog Unit 9-10

This week, the student completed planning for their music video and short film productions, including creating shooting scripts, storyboards, props lists, and crew lists. The planning process helped the student visualize and organize each scene, shot, and aspect of production. While an initial idea for the music video fell through, requiring a change in song choice, the planning stages overall helped the student work through issues and stay on track for filming. Extensive work was done both in and outside of lessons to finalize preparations, and the student feels ready to film next week as their storyboards and planning are of a high standard.

Week 5 This week was spent planning your productions

What did you learn from your planning? This week I have completed the planning stages for both the
music video and the short film. When planning for my music
video I used a shooting script to outline how my visuals would fit
with the lyrics of the song. This helped me to really visualise
how my production and how it may look before I film it. I also
drew up storyboards for both productions to really help to me
prepare for each scene and shot by shot how I will film it. By
doing this it really helped me to visualise every scene with the
shot types and angles. I created a props list and a crew list for
each production to allow me to be prepared for each production.

How will this be useful as your All of these processes of planning are extremely important to
production process continues? ensure that I can produce a good quality production. I made sure
that I kept my crew and actors in the loop of communications to
help them understand my intentions in terms of the filming
aspect when and where I will be filming and how long roughly
my production will take to film. By doing all of the planning it
helped me to be organised with my actors and crew and also
helped me to stay on track with what needed to be completed
before the filming day.

What issues did you encounter whilst The weeks before planning I tried to arrange for a friend outside
planning and how did you overcome of college who is taking music to form a band with a group of
them? friends to star as the main characters in my music video.
However, they weren’t very keen to help me, so I had to change
my idea slightly and go with my second song choice Teenage
Kicks by the Undertones. By this happening so early on in the
planning stage it through me off completely and having to
change my whole concept wasn’t great. After some careful
planning and with the help of my teachers I manage to come up
with a narrative idea that will work with my song choice.

How much work did you complete I completed lots of work outside of lesson to complete my
outside of the lessons? storyboards and to work out which props I can use in my short
film that I could use to create a homely setting. I also worked
hard to complete my script to ensure that I can stay on task for
the week and get my storyboards done.

Are you ready to film next week and if I am ready to film next week I have planned everything I need
not, what do you need to complete to be from my production schedule to my Storyboards. I have created a
ready? high standard to show all of my planning.

Are your storyboards up to standard? I have drawn my storyboards to a high standard, using arrows to
show how the camera will move in certain scenes. I have also
done storyboards that show shot by shot how my story will play
out and how the characters will be position in the frame.
