This document discusses principles of graphic design layout such as proximity, alignment, repetition, and contrast. It then defines infographics as visual presentations of information that use design elements like color coding, graphics, and references. Infographics are used to communicate messages, present large amounts of data compactly, analyze data, and monitor parameters. The document also covers contemporary photo manipulation techniques including doctoring, age progression, fading smoke effects, and color combustion. It lists several offline and open source software programs for image manipulation such as GIMP, Paint.net, and Autostitch.

MANIPULATING TEXT, GRAPHICS AND IMAGES TO CREATE ICT CONTENT

INTENDED FOR AN ONLINE ENVIRONMENT

Basic Principles of Graphics and Layout

 Proximity – elements must be grouped together so that the viewer / reader will be guided to
the different parts of the message
 Alignment – elements should be aligned in a visual and readable arrangement.
 Repetition – like to use of repetitious hooks in a song, repeating elements in a graphic design
can be visually appealing.
 Contrast – contrast between design elements can make a presentation standout and get
noticed.
 White Space - it is useful when you want to make a direct message, to stand out above a clutter
found in many graphic design.
