ABSTRACT

This coursework was given in the 4th week of the 3rd semester and

should be submitted on the 10 th week of the same semester. This

coursework is mainly focused on two tasks (Task A and Task B). task A
is all about network simulation process and task B is all about report
writing based on research. Comnet III perform as analysis tool for the
communications network. In data communication and networking can use
as Comnet III to model and simulate LAN, WAN and interconnection of
various network.

TASK A

1. Introduction

A network is a process of connecting different computer to

communicate with each other. The types of network are LAN,
WAN and MAN where LAN works within a small area, MAN works
in larger than LAN and the WAN works for the largest area.
(Thakur, 2018)

Network simulation is the process of running the network model

which occurs the simulation based on the traffic and describe the
model and execute the event. The process is repeated until the
time of simulation process is completed. (sullivan, 2017)

The toolbar has its own operation to work, here in this coursework we use
some if the tools like: message source, message response, server,
router, token link, token passing ring etc.

2. WAN Model Description

The headquarter of the IBM bank is at Edinburg which has a two-
transaction network in Nepal (Biratnagar and Lalitpur). The WAN
cloud is interlinked with all the three IBN bank i.e. Edinburg LAN,
Biratnagar LAN and Lalitpur LAN.

4. Conclusion

This Task A was completed with all the requirement mention in the
coursework. The report description was done after simulation followed by
browsing the report which was operated successfully. This Task A
required numerous effort and lot of research to finish the work.
Before, beginning the work the question was perused cautiously about
the prerequisites that was expected to solve in Task A, as it had a great
deal of necessities, however at long last situation was comprehended
and WAN Model was made according to the prerequisites in Comnet III.
After, designing the WAN model, proper documentation was
accomplished for Task A. Though, this Task A was fruitful and important
course.

TASK B

5. Introduction

GSM(Global System for mobile) technology is an open , digital mobile

communication for transmitting voice message and the data services.
GSM is also called 2G network which was utilized portable
correspondence framework on the earth. It is also a voice transmission
versatile and work as information. SSM uses a variation of time division
multiple access (TDMA) and is the most widely used of three digital
wireless telephony technologies. TDMA, GSM and code-division multiple
access (CDMA). A GSM system coordinates the communication between
a mobile telephone (mobile stations), base stations (cell sites), and
switching system.

At the beginning of Advanced Mobile Phone System (AMPS) in the

United states and Total Access Communication System (TACS) in the
United Kingdom, were built with analog technology that allows us to
communication with one another in different locations without the use of
any physical connection (wires or cables). Mobile communication makes
our life easier, and it saves time and effort. GSM was first formed by
confederation of European post and the telecommunication.

5.1. Mobile Communication

Mobile communication is the radio terminal which transfer during

the operation and provides wireless connection to the other end
device. Mobile communication makes our life easier, and it saves
time and effort. Mobile Communication is the useful technology that

17032214
CS5001NA- Networking And Operating System

allows us to communication multiple entities with each other using

mobile devices, it can communication with one another in
communication makes our life easier, and it saves time and effort.

Figure 32. Mobile communication device

5.1.1. Cellular Radio

Cellular radio describes a method of expanding the quantity of
synchronous radio conversations that can be upheld by a fixed
number of radio frequeny (RF) channels by constraining the
scope of transmission to single cell, to which an extend of the
accessibile channels is allocated.Cellular radio is much based
on the transmitter of small area which is used for making the
call throughout the base station or the tower. We consider

17032214
CS5001NA- Networking And Operating System

cellular system as a full duplex system.

5.1.2. Advantages and Disadvantages

The advantage of GSM technology is:
o It provides very cost-effective products.

o Higher number of antennas will provide higher speed.

This mobile works based on sim and hence it is easy
to modify different varieties of mobile phone by any
individual. o This signal does not have any
deterioration inside the office.

The disadvantage of the GSM technology is:

o GSM provides only limited data rate. o More repeater
is required in order to increase the coverage.
o GSM burst transmission technology and hence it
interferes with certain electronics. (Anon., 2016)

6.1. Cellular Teachnologies

Cellular technology is thing that mobile phone networks are
depend on, and it’s the technology that gave mobile phones
the name “cellphones”. Cellular technology basically refers to
having numerous small interconnected transmitters instead of
the big one.

17032214
CS5001NA- Networking And Operating System

6.2.1. GSM
In 1991,GSM (Global System for mobile) the original 2G standard was
launched. It was the major deployment to use encryption, and now
appreciates over 90% market share and infiltration into around 220 nations.
GSM is the worldwide choice with CDMA in most of the part of united states
things. It is one of the most standard broadcast communications. GSM was
named as group special.

6.2.2. 1G, 2G,3G and LTE

o 1G
1G is the first generation of wireless telephone technology which has versatile
media communications. These are the analog telecommunication standards that were
introduced in the 1980s and continued until being replaced by telecommunications. It has
only analog telephone for voice message. The maximum speed of 1G is 2.4
kbps.

o 2G
Second Generation (2G) was introduced in the 1980s. It depends upon digital
transmission. Second generation 2G cellular telecom networks were
commercially launched on the GSM standard in finland by Radiolinja in 1991.
The encryption methodology was introduced by 2G. There was GSM and
CDMA versions of 2G

o 3G

Third generation was introduced in 2000 and it was depending on GSM

network. The data rate was up to 14 Mbps using packet switching with the
high speed of internet and videocall which operate 2100MHz of range.
(vora, 2015)

o LTE
LTE is the long-term evolution which increase the bandwidth of the voice the
data communication by using different radio interface.

6.2.3. Wireless Communications

Wireless communication is the fastest growing segment of the
communication industry. This system transmits the information over the
distance using smoke signal, torch signal and semaphore flags. In these

7. Conclusion

The Task B was all about a technical report. This report required a lot of
research and Hard work. Previously, beginning the work, the question
was perused cautiously about the perquisites that was expected to
illuminate the questios in Task B. subsequent to doing the fitting
exploration the documentation was done cautiously according to the
perequisite of the work. The report was all about the GSM description
and its features
In this entire coursework, I would say this coursework was tough to complete
