1.0 PURPOSE: This work instruction is applicable to stage II (2x500) units.


2.0 SCOPE: It covers the safe shut down of the unit.
3.0 RESPONSIBILITY: Unit controller and desk engineers are responsible for the compliance of
this work instruction. The concerned executives execute the work as per the procedure laid down
in consultation with SCE, CSCE and General Shift executives.

4.0 PROCEDURE DETAILS:

CONSEQUENCES OF 240 VOLT UPS SUPPLY FAILURE:-

1.0 All HMI supplies from main UPS will not be available but from battery supply will be available
for around 2 hours.
2.0 Scanner panel power supply will trip and immediately scanner will sense no Flame in the Boiler.
3.0 Unit will trip on flame failure protection. Turbine trips on MFT & Generator will trip on Low Forward
Power protection.
4.0 ID fans VFDs air flow relays and its control supply will be Lost and VFD will trip.
5.0 APH Air Motor will take auto start.
6.0 MDBFP scoop will become inoperative from remote.
7.0 All Drives vibration including the Turbine vibration data will not be available.
8.0 O2 analyzer data will not be available.

ACTIONS TO BE TAKEN DURING 240V UPS SUPPLY FAILURE:-

1.0 Ensure start of Turbine AOP at 2850 RPM.


2.0 Ensure start of JOP at 510 RPM.
3.0 Ensure opening of barring Gear at 210 rpm.
4.0 If possible Maintain Drum Level by operating MDBFP Scoop from local otherwise stop MDBFP
and BCWP pumps if its DP <0.9ksc.
5.0 H2 pressure seal oil system parameters to be monitored from local.
6.0 Inform C&I and EMD for restoration of UPS at the earliest.
