back the paradise that once was lost. Remember, a man cannot make the world

progress, people do. One person cannot bring back the island but when everyone in the

community helps, it will give a big impact and surely solve the crisis that the society is

facing.
 Wanted: dead heroes

According to my research, the Philippines is one of 18 mega-biodiverse

countries of the world, containing two-thirds of the earth’s biodiversity and between

70% and 80% of the world’s plant and animal species. But as years passed, some of

Tress play a very vital role in man’s existence. They serve as the oxygen

emitting. Tress also hold land to avoid soil eruption and flood. Tress give many

purposes, but one of the many things that they were made is because they also serve

as dwelling places to animals. If there are no tress to be found, animals will lose

habitats that might lead the animal’s extinction.

experienced but some people just keep what they know to avoid havoc and for security

purposes yet, is this the right thing to do when you know shutting your mouth might

endanger other beings? No. righteousness and honesty ,might destroy others but it will

save humanity.

I agree with Glenda that the ACME mining company should not be given a

permit to start open-pit mining in the said area for there was no proper environmental

impact assessment clearance or EIA. Without this, it might pose a hazard to the

environment and/or it surrounding community. Everything should undergo the

process. No matter who you are or what power you have, it should be fair to everybody.

these permits are given to secure the safety of people and animals dwelling around the

area. One should not abuse his/her power to get what he/she wants. We must always

consider the wellbeing of others.

If I were Glenda, I will not go directly to a press but to the high ranking
officials of the bureau. There is also a proper process in addressing the problem if the

division chief cannot resolve the problem, go to the regional office, and if it is not yet

solved, better address it to the national office. With this, the said company can be

mandated to get a proper environmental study in the area to assure the safety of the

community surrounding it.

We must not fear to do what is correct. Don’t let others tell you what to do as

long as you know that what you did is right; stand for the truth and never be unethical.

There are better ways to solve the problem. Doing what is immoral will never give you

peace.
 Pick Me Up

How beautiful a day it is when kindness and thoughtfulness touch it?

there is so much in life that we need to be grateful. We are showered by blessings yet;

these awards also need hard work.

Ronnie de Guzman is a geodetic engineer assigned to the Bureau of

Lands. Just like any other employee, Ronnie also receives a salary enough to feed his

family, give their needs, support their wants, and especially, bring food to their table.

With the escalating prices of goods, daily needs, transportation charges, and other

finances, we have to work hard just to gain the budget we need for our family. If we

could only go the extra mile and add more jobs just to receive an amount to apt our

family’s expenses, we will do everything and anything for this.

Just like any other employee, Ronnie also supports his family and with

this, he’ll do more and do his job directly and effectively. If I were in ronnie’s shoes, i

presume there is no wrong in receiving something from anyone as long as there is no

other hidden agenda and any other schemes in receiving such an award. If receiving

something from a client without any other reasons aside from being paid an extra

amount for doing a good job gives no crime and has nothing to do with the breaking of

any law or it gives an act of bribery, then it would be alright to receive such cash gift. If

given was just a minimal amount and he has not asked for it for his own personal

inhuman, then it would not affect his work. He should not just tolerate such kindness

and abuse.
 Living in this present-day and contemporary world means, to live you need to

survive, to survive you need to eat you need to spend and you cannot spend

when you don’t have bills in your pocket. Everywhere and almost anything we need is

sold out in the market wherein you can seldom see free goods nowadays. This is the

reason why we work hard and do our jobs and do overtime if it means extra payment.

We are all people, and people do anything and everything to survive. We do things for

our family and we do things to keep on living. There is nothing wrong with receiving

blessings as long as you know that it does not do any harm to anyone and you’ll have a

clear conscience upon this and when this happens, do not boast and be humble and

keep on striving and continuously do your job effectively.

Don’t ignore the basics, many other basics also get overlooked. Offices need to

ensure that basic controls are in place on a range of issues. There are so many

countries in this world experiencing from graft and corruption. These big dilemmas

came from small actions.

People are diverse. Some people continuously do good things and are truthful

and some people do not bother to break the law and keep on doing fallacious things

that had also become abusive. In this case, two people are willing to stand for what

they think is right. Cynthia for siding the truth and Mely who thinks practically by doing

something wrong.

Our government spends millions and millions for supplies, facilities, materials,
etc. just to supply all departments what they need that may also help the communities

to assist that the people be worthy of. These millions of money used-up by the

government came from its people’s taxes which also means that if someone misuses

and takes advantage of these benefits and steal even a little amount of it is means of

corruption and it also looks like you have also swindled your own country. That little

amount contributed by the people was all product of hard work that contains effort,

blood and sweat.

This is very reason why our country cannot make headway because corruption

does not just exist and it is done by politicians but also by the common people who are

in the government employees and public servants. This also backfires to those who are

in a high position who do this tedious work which would also let those people in lower
position do the same. In this case, I would stand for truth and what is right. I will stand in
Cynthia’s part.

Always, remember that small steps can bring big changes. An inch of gold is

miles of lives. Little Things Make Big Things Happen. What you do can also attract

others to do the same. Be a good person and stand for what is right. To be “Righteous,”

we simply need to be honest about our defects of character. With this, we can help our

country to develop.
 More Than Just Casinos

Just because something is immortal does not make it illegal and just because

something is illegal it does not make it immortal. Not all immortal acts are illegal.

The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR), Lotto, and

Sweepstakes involve gambling. These amusement and games reach out thousands of

people that would gamble for million worth prize in our country that also gains millions

of profits. It was said that gambling is a social ill that causes several problems for a

family. Not just inside the family but also to its surrounding that will create havoc and

misconception.

In contrast, Philippine amusement and gaming corporation(PAGCOR.),

lotto, and sweepstakes fund social projects. From its revenues remitted to the

President Social Fund, the PAGCOR enabled the government to build schools, help

victims of calamities, and take part in other social projects to help less fortunate.

Profits gained from these are also a huge help to people.

They say that is not factual to gamble for it put an end to people’s

mindset to become fruitful and appreciate the spirit of hard work for such as
amusements

and games bait the people to be lazy and spare on luck to get instant money without

any difficulty which also results to shambles of a person. Yet people were said to be at

the top of metazoan for we are rational. With the gift of rationality, it is also our
responsibility to take care of our expenses budget our money. It is on us already

organizations, we have our internal guidelines, rules, and regulations to follow. They

aren’t crafted just to be a piece of equipment, but they were implemented for a reason.

We are given by God with the will of freedom. People have their minds to do

what they think they wanted to do yet, guidelines, laws, policies, rules are there to be a

barrier to the extent of our freedom. It is not because we are free, we can do anything

we want. There are appropriate dresses for all events. As an employee, it is important to

maintain modesty and proper decorum. These dress codes are our guide of blueprint to

how to become a person who deserves to be respected.

Some people would break rules just to look inevitable however, there are things

We need to consider. Money cannot buy respect yet being able to wear something

proper and imbibe a character of goodness then, respect will be given for free.

Wealth cannot be seen just only on your physical appearance, it cannot be seen

from the clothes you wear, the jewelry that hangs around your neck nor the shoes that

fit your feet perfectly, but it can be seen in your heart, character, and actions. A wealthy

person does not haughty but instead, they are down to earth and always humble.
 Therefore, if I were the employee, I will not agree with her opinion regarding the

CSC’s dress code for I know that rules are established to protect us and for us to

become the better version of ourselves. We just need the sight to see its importance

and appreciate it. When rules are properly set and followed, they provide a stable

environment and human co-existence in a community, resulting in peace and order.

RA 6713 – This Act shall be known as the “Code of Conduct and Ethical

Standards for Public Officials and Employees.”

“Baka ma-RA 6713 ka because of these gift you have been receiving ever since,”

Josie said. There is a law saying that government employees are not allowed to receive

gifts or any extra payment for any free or government services.

“I did ask for gifts. They were given to me as a token of appreciation. And they

are of nominal in value.” Adora explained. Gift-giving had been part of our culture

already and refusing them is taken as an insult. Also, it was written in RA 6713 that

government employees can accept gifts as long as those tokens are nominal or

insignificant.

Adora and Josie both have their opinions taken. As for Josie’s side, it is factual

that anyone working under the government should not accept any gifts especially when

it encompasses bribery. Our services for the public should be free of charge. It is better

to resist tokens than do unlawful things and be alluded to some material things as

compensation for our public service.

Contrary wise, Adora is also factual. She did not request the gifts and she did not

take all those gifts for bribery. All of those materials given were just token of

appreciation for her satisfying performance and service rendered. As long as Adora
does not abuse these generosities, there is nothing immortal with receiving minimal
gifts.

Thus, insecurity and being envious does not resolve your problem. What is

necessary is to mind your work, focus, and be the best employee in your field. We

should not be a man of jealousy and unworthy acts for these just define us as to be

incompetent. We must always look forward to what we do and do our best in our own

chosen profession. Also, we should not be abusive and avoid accepting ant tokens

especially in the form of money that involves malicious undertakings and service. A

simple acknowledgement as an act of gratitude and appreciation is more than a gift

already. With or without the gift, we must do our work effectively.

As a public school teacher, I am aware that almost all facilities, transportation

automobiles, other school supplies funded by the government technically came

from the pocket of taxpayers.

Government employees and public servants must be trustworthy and must

imbibe honor. These characteristics can be seen from the actions of a person. As a

citizen in this country, it is also evident in our society the abuse made by some

government employees and public servants to any public or government properties.

Some use these for private and personal purposes. We can see others using the

official vehicle of a government agency steering around a park, mall, or toured for

family vacation purposes. People in our country aren’t naïve that all these properties

aren’t owned for any personal utilization but are used for official businesses. If one can

use these properties for personal use, then all people are allowed to use any of these

any time without any permission from higher rank. With this, it will start the chaos and

disorganization of society. Such as actions are also a form of graft and corruption. We

must remember that these properties came from the hard work, steadfastness, and

effort of our countrymen that involves sweat and sacrifices. If we keep in deceiving

these people it is also like we have deceived ourselves that make us a no better person

and is not qualified for our position.

business with, I will not report it immediately to the Ombudsman. Hence, I will try to

prove and get to know what is the purpose of why this certain government official stops

at such a place. If the reason is valid, then, there is no reason report. But, if this has

nothing to do with any government transaction and was only used for personal

necessity, then we must follow the protocol in reporting such an incident. Even though

you are the most intelligent person in the whole world, if your perspective and acts do

not apt your intelligence, then I would choose to become a common person with

integrity and honesty.

Time helps us to make a good habit of organizing and structuring our daily

activities. Time plays a significant role in our lives. If we better understand the time

value, then it can gain experience and develop skills over time. Every Day, Every Hour,

Every Minute, and Every Second is important in life. As a teacher, time is significant,

and time management is vital in our daily undertakings for our scope of liability is not

just limited inside the school premises, we have also lived outside that we need to be

present at. We must manage our time dutifully and be punctual at all times and be

diligent so we can be productive and effective as well.

Just like teachers, every employee needs to picture and appreciate the

significance of time yet sometimes, there are people especially those of who are in

higher rank does not follow internal rules and regulations on attendance and punctuality

for they have the power and as Filipino, we have this mindset to “wait until you

become”. Yes, we work hard to achieve our position and we do a lot of things just to

succeed yet, it does not mean that when one gains and sit on a higher rank, he/she can

be what we say “comfortable”. Those who are appointed to higher rank must be a good

role model to their subordinates and set good attitudes that are worth following. They

must be punctual and manage their time. Remember, our actions can make others do

the same things. It is not because you have the power, you can already abuse this.
 In this case, his boss said that it is only for he is asked to work on Saturdays or

even Sundays and holidays. Nevertheless, there is a reason he is appointed and was

given a salary enough and fitted to his amount of work. Yes, he does an extra job but it

is also because he has the position and the obligation to do the work. He must be

responsible for his duties and work accordingly to what assigned to. Time is really

important to everyone. Time cannot be stolen, we only have the choice to use and savor

every moment, and we deceiving ourselves starting with manipulating our logs in and

out is a form of corruption. It is only with us on how to manage our time. When we get

organized with our time, we not only increase our ability to manage our daily tasks

effectively, but we also increase the likelihood of putting time where it counts.
 MY REFLECTION

For a country to progress and develop, it does not just require one person to

work, it involves all people in the community. For us to build a stronger vista not just for

our country but as well as building a brighter future for our children, it takes cooperation,

unity, and effort of all people in the surrounding. It does not just involve the parents, yet

the assistance and help from the government workers and public servant involve strong

concession in making a route for the success of our children, our children who will be

the hope for the future of our country, our children who are our successors toward

becoming a progressive and advanced in any aspect especially, politically and

economically.

It is widely known how some people in our state abuse their power and use this

to lift their economic status while forsaking the consequences that will ripple to the lives

of other people. We would do everything and anything just to attain our goals but this

can be achieved without compromising others worth of living. We should always work

with integrity and honesty and be diligent at all times. We may not be paid in terms of

monetary for this effort but no money could ever be exchanged for doing what is right.
The cultivation of your thoughts is the only things that will ever bring you true peace.

One aspect of this is accepting when bad things happen and turning it into a positive

experience. More importantly, your inner peace does not depend on the ‘balance’

section of your bank statement. It’s how you train your mind set, expectations, and

define what inner peace truly means to you. We cannot get any treasure from being

moral yet it recompenses a lot of gratification and appreciation that would also be a

good start in helping other. Doing good stuff might not help ourselves financially, but

others will benefit from this. Besides your good deeds influence your children, co-

workers and other people in your community to follow suit and do the same or similar

kind of doing/giving that you do. Without having to lecture or sweet talk others, simply

by doing, you influence and lead others by your example. As a public servant, you

participate in a community activity, or simply help someone in need, others will see or

hear about your actions and be motivated to do the same. Moreover, it is good to see

people work together, giving their best, and working without any dishonesty. With this, it

will give us the hope to become a better country and gradually be the best, not just

because we have best products, but also we have the best people that will help hand in

hand to secure our future, our children’s future, our countries’ future, and the future of

generation to come.

Abraham Lincoln gracefully said, “ A house divided against itself cannot stand.”

Without unity, there is no growth, integrity, freedom, and no love for our country. While

many factors contribute to the overall development of a country, unity is the most vital.

Let’s stay together and help support one another in times of adversities and privileges’.

“Unity is Strength” and “United we stand, divided we fall”, are common phrases and are

true to their every word.
