It is indisputable that education plays a crucial role of one’s future, and the
anticipation of exploring overseas culture and having the chance of meeting a lot of
people is usually encouraging. However like coins, everything has two faces and by
studying locally, one will get the same standard education, meet friendly friends and
encounter memorable experiences as those who are having their studies in abroad.
This clearly states that studying locally has more advantages than studying abroad.

With the thought of being close to your family, studying locally is the best alternative
choice with the advantage of the closeness to your hometown since it helps to keep
the homesickness away. It could mean studying in a different state away from your
family but the channels of communication and transport are easy since purchasing a
ticket locally is cheaper thus easy to get home. If one prefers to stick to the culture
that you have plunged to since they were born, then studying locally is the right
option. If they choose to study abroad, it is not easy to adapt and live in a foreign
country, and to be suddenly torn away from the comforting network of family,
relatives and friends. Some lonely students who are under stress to perform well in
their studies may develop mental disorders. Recently, there was a case of an
overseas student who felt ridiculed by his peers and teachers. He was lonely and
lashed out by shooting several of his peers and teachers. It is true that there is need
to adapt to an advanced environment if we study locally but comparing to those in
distant countries getting getting used to the new environment, studying locally
would be easy and one would not have to encounter any culture shock.

By choosing to study locally, one is able to get focused with the studies hence
excelling well in their studies unlike the students who change their base. Studying
locally is cheaper and fee registration offered is affordable to everyone. Public
universities collect a large portion of their operating funds from Federal and local
state governments. This allows them to make tuition costs more affordable to the
average students. The cost of the fee can be bared by the students. Studying in local
universities can decrease financial burden and make the studying process easier
without any stress about the fees. Different countries have different currency rate.
Usually, when we change the currency to another currency, the value will be smaller.
So, we need more money to study abroad. Students have to scrimp as they need a
lot of money to pay fees if studying abroad than studying locally. When they study in
universities in the countries different climate like United States and United Kingdom,
they also need more money to buy winter clothes. Not only that, if they are in cases
of emergency, they cannot go home immediately because they do not have enough
money to buy tickets which are expensive.

Besides that, the local institutions have flexibility in study such as part time
programme which are open to students who are left behind. The part time courses
available helps students to excel well in their studies. Hence, many students who are
hardworking, have obtained a degree in a period faster than they would have done
abroad. Other than that, unlike Asian study culture, many western institutions which
conduct courses, have a less regimental study culture.However, some students may
miss the moral guidance of their parents and friends. Left alone, they may mix with
the wrong crowd. There have been cases of students partying, taking drugs,
neglecting their studies and exceeding their budgets. Given these distractions, some
of these students may not complete their studies successfully.

The other reason is the equipment offered, the students are able to get the best
education since the facilities offered are enough and the degrees from local
universities are internationally recognized. Moreover, it is easy to apply for a local
university since the government first offer the opportunities to the local students.

Being in our motherland, chances of getting employment after graduation are


promising since the chance are first given to the citizens. This is due to the fact that
the students graduate in their own country can bring many benefits to the country
as well. It is seeing as a way of benefiting country thus dragging the country ahead.
As an example, many students who study locally will be offered work from private
sector and public sector . They are offered studies in government offices such as
KWSP, immigration office and many others. The salary of the fresh graduate will be
offered good starting salary with many additional benefits like allowance, easy loans
and many other incentive.

In conclusion, students who have their studies locally are more convenient, very
flexible and local universities have a higher chance of producing first class honors.
