DMCD3523 - Chapter 1 Execise
(Individual exercise)
Problem statement
Malaysia and the rest of the world are now facing with the 3rd wave of Covid19 pandemic, whereby
the number of positive cases has increase drastically. Many efforts and solution have been introduced
to reduce and control the Covid19 spread and flatten the infection curve especially by the frontliners.
As a concerned and responsible Malaysian citizen, please help the frontliners (i.e. medical staff, armed
forces, police, non-medical staff working in healthcare centres i.e. guards and cleaners, and others) by
creating a solution in the form of an engineering product to help them to perform their work easier
and prevent them from being infected by the virus during working. The product solution must be easy
to use, and cause no risk of getting infected by the virus while using it.
1. State your Full Name, Matrix Number and Section Number. Add a picture of yourself on the TOP
RIGHT corner of the report.
4. Select existing product/solution available in the market related to the problem to solve as
benchmark.
5. Generate at least three design ideas for the solution to the problem which comply to all the PDS
(you may also apply any idea generation method learnt by searching from google). Explain each idea
in brief (how it works, what are the advantages). Insert label for the individual components in the
design ideas generated. Add elements on Design for Sustainability for all the ideas generated to solve
the problem. You just need to show the design ideas in the form of sketching. Handwriting-sketch is
highly recommended.
6. Select the best idea using Pugh selection method. Show how the selection method was performed
and explain why that final idea is the best compared to others.
7. Write your solution process in a simple report, and later scan/convert to pdf and upload it to
DMCD3523 Ulearn portal.
Report format: A4, 1.5 spacing, Calibri font type, 11pt font size.
