1. What have you realized after getting information about how the millennials learn
better?
The Millennial Learners like me have a shorter attention span. We prefer interactive,
experiential and learning. We are very comfortable with technology. We multitask. We
are driven by instant gratification. We like informal and stimulating environments. We
prefer casual and friendly relationships with teachers.
I knew that the purpose of education is to prepare the next generation. Upon doing this
kind of activity I found out that on our modern world millennials have not known life
without the Internet. Their enhanced ability to understand and use technology also opens
the door for technological use in learning and development. Millennial learners rely on
social media to share knowledge and ideas and discuss challenges. It’s where they receive
advice and feedback. By using forums and chats, they are using platforms that millennials
are familiar with. Collaborative learning, and specifically online collaboration, enables
people to connect and collaborate anywhere at any time. Learning doesn’t have to be
formal. Informal learning or learning that is less structured appeals to the younger work
because they appreciate the flexibility. I found out that millennials are agile and flexible.
Their ease with technology means that they respond well to a range of digital learning
styles and delivery methods. Millennials learn differently.
2. As a pre-service teacher, what actions will you take as you prepare yourself to handle
these types of learners?
As future educator, it is more vital than ever that you are providing your students with the
tools to tackle this tech-rich environment and thrive within it. As a pre-service teacher I
need to be more practiced and ready. I need to provide opportunities for learning and
development. Offer a balance between personal and professional life. Make way for more
movement. I need to be ready how to be a mentor, not bosses. Learn how to create a
strong company culture. Knowing and recognize their need for recognition. Learn how to
make it meaningful for the students, tie and establish context to real life experiences.
3. How will you handle your lessons in order that you will make learners become more
engaged and effectively take accountability of their own learning?
When designing and implementing learning activities may help increase student
engagement behaviorally, emotionally, and cognitively, thereby positively
affecting student learning and achievement. To engage students in learning I need to
tap into Students' Prior Knowledge, Learn Students' Interests, Organize Classroom
Discussions, Design highly relevant learning activities, Integrate Modern Technology,
Foster Competition among Students, Provide Timely and Regular Feedback in Terms of
Progress. When engagement is at a high-level student perform better academically,
improve classroom behavior, and gain a higher sense of self-esteem
