Existing Open Source Bioreactors

This document describes several open source bioreactor designs that can be built for culturing microorganisms or cells. The designs range in size from 10 ml to 20 L and cost between $400-$2250. Each design includes features like temperature control, agitation, media supply, and sensors for measurements like optical density, pH, and weight. Construction manuals, code, design files, articles, and wiki pages are provided as resources to build the different bioreactor designs.

Open Source Bioreactors

Bioreactors provide a controlled environment for culturing microorganisms or cells.

Conditions that can be optimized for cell growth are:
● Medium in which the cells are grown
● Temperature
● Oxygen, Nitrogen
● Agitation
● pH
