ACTIVITIES PRE-LESSON A game plays or an activity is done to introduce the broad topic of
celebrations.
LESSON DELIVERY Warm Up (Student Book page 37)
1.A calendar is stacked on the board and student are asked what
day and what month it is, then write on the board. Students are
explained that we write Monday,11 October, but we say Monday,
the eleventh of October. Students repeat the date.
Vocabulary (Student book page 37)
1.Students open their books to page 37. The CD is played and
students point to the number in the vocabulary section and repeat.
The words/phrases are said and students repeat and point.
Students are asked what they notice about the formation of ordinal
numbers and point out the exceptions.
Activity 1(Student Book page 37)
1.Students pay attention to the pictures. Students are asked what
they can see in the pictures. Students listen to a song and guess
what is going to be about. The song is played once and students
listen. The song is played a second time and students match each
verse to the corresponding picture. Students are invited to sing the
song.
Activity NTB
1.A few words are highlighted from the song such as celebrate,
celebration, fun and special. Students receive the worksheet, which
has a choice of definitions for each word in clear and simple
English.

students point to the correct picture and repeat. The words are
said again in random order and students repeat and point.
2.China and The US are written on the board. Half of the students
are given the text about Chinese New Year and half of the students
the text about Independence Day. Students read the text and say if
it is about China or the US.
Activity 2(Student Book page 40)
1.Students are asked if they know anything about celebrations in
other countries. Students look at the pictures and try and guess
what celebrations each child talks about it. Students point to the
appropriate picture as the CD is played. The CD is played again and
students shadow read.
Grammar Box (Student Book page 41)
1.Students pay attention to the grammar box at the top of page 41.
Students read the sentences out loud. Students say sentences about
themselves using I’m not going to. Students refer to the Grammar
reference at the back of the book.
2.Students who have read different texts are paired. They exchange
their answers for Activity 2 using full sentences, so that they both
complete the table.
POST LESSON The vocabulary is reviewed from this lesson by asking which
words belong to which celebration. Students’ opinion of these
celebrations are asked

2. Students are asked to answer these questions. Students pay

answering the questions.
3. Based on the question under the texts on page 40 in the
student’s book, students are asked in pairs to think of a celebration
they like. In their notebooks, they make notes about the
celebration using the question words.
4.Students write about the celebration in their notebooks,
individually. Students are reminded to use the correct
punctuations when writing their answers.
5.Students exchange their work and review it. Students give
feedback on the writing, both language and content, with a
particular focus on punctuation and use of capitals.
7. Pupils re-write their work.
