(Students do the tasks.)

B. Goal Setting

Today class, you are expected to:

unlock the unfamiliar words present in

the story through context clues
note important details from the
selection
employ the different short story
elements in the story
value the story through differentiated
tasks
C. Pre-Reading

a. Motivation

Before we will start everything, I want

everybody to stand and let us have a simple
Happy Feet Dance.

When we talk about Happy Feet Dance it is

about stepping your feet to the ground to
create a wonderful sound. (Students do the task.)

Thank you very much class! Hooray to all of

us.

Now class I have here a simple video clip.

Analyze well the video as I play it because
afterwards, I will be asking you some
questions.

Is it clear?

Yes Ma’am!

(The teacher plays the video clip.)

(Students watch the video clip.)

Are you familiar with the video?

Yes Ma’am!

Kindly tell something about the video?

It is about a search for different talents.

What is the title of that talent search?

It is PGT or Pilipinas Got Talent.

Class, do you believe that we are all blessed

with God-given talents?
Yes Ma’am!
Why do you say so?

I believe that God had given us talent because

He created everyone unique and we possess
different abilities and capabilities.

Excellent! Who can show me just a glimpse

of his/her talent?

(Students showcase a glimpse of their talent.)

Very good class! Let’s give a clap to all of

you!

Now, from the video clip, up to the questions

being raised are all connected to the story
which we are about to discuss this day. It’s a
beautiful story depicting about being
different, it is about how one used his talent to
help his fellow species. But he was judged by
his fellow species before he reached the peak
of success. Yes, today the subject of our story
is not people, but about a group of birds that
live in a wonderful land.

The teacher shows a picture of a penguin and

asks if they know something about penguins.

D. Presentation

a. Unlocking of Difficulties

For us to fully understand the story let us first

unlock the unfamiliar words present in the
story through context clues.

As you can see on the board, there are

penguins that are holding sentences and there
are underlined words that we will encounter
as we go through to the story.

Now class, I want you to find the meaning of

the underlined word in the opposite column
and place it after the sentence.

Is that clear class? Yes Ma’am!

It was his habit to take a nap
after eating his lunch.

He gave me a stern look.

A new ocean liner claims to be

the largest vessel in the world.

She beckoned to the waiter to

come over.

Several species of birds inhabit

the island. Yes Ma’am!

The male penguin is the one

responsible for keeping the
egg safe until the baby
penguin is ready to hatch.

They thought they would never

see each other again, but fate
brought them back together.

The country was hit by a

plague of natural disasters
last year.

b. Meet the Author

But before we will start this story, let us know

first the background of the author who wrote
this beautiful story.

-Background of the Author-

George Miller was born on March 3,
1945
He is a Greek/Australian film director,
screen writer, producer and former Yes Ma’am!
Medical Doctor.
Miller is the creator of the Happy
Feet, a musical epic about the life of
penguins in Antartica.
Happy Feet has brought Miller his
third Academy Award nomination and
his first win in the category of Best
Animated Feature. (Students do the task.)

Class, always remember about Sir George

Miller okay?

c. Motive Question

Now class, we are almost ready to discuss the

story. But before we will proceed, I want you
to ponder on this question.

MOTIVE QUESTION:

In what way you will show to the

world that you are unique? And Yes Ma’am.
how will you apply this uniqueness
to help other people?

D. Reading Proper

(The story was given as an assignment for

advance reading.)

 The main character of the story is

the class what is the picture all about.  The fishing vessels took the food

E. Post-Reading

Now class, as you can see, there is a big

model of penguin and his name is Mumble.
Mumble’s right hand is holding different
colors of balloon same with his left hand.  He followed them.

I will roll this color wheel to identify which

group will answer the question that is placed
in the balloon. Once the arrow of the wheel
points your group number, choose one among  Unlike other penguins who are good

inside the balloon. Every correct answer
corresponds to 2 points and some of the
balloons also contains bonus points.

Are the instructions clear?

group of people?
 Yes! I will find the main conflict, in
order to save the people in the
community.
What makes Mumble different from
all the other penguins?

Do you think family is important if

you are facing a kind of situation like
the character of Mumble in the story?
Why?

 I can say that I am special because I

have my family and friends who
supports me with the things that I do

the same thing to find the main
conflict that affects your community?
Why?
 Yes! I am willing to fight for what is
right even though I know it will take
me apart with my family because I
know in the end, I will still reach the
peak of success because I know I am
fighting for what is right.
From the story, how do you define
uniqueness?

How can you say that you are special

and what are the things that you have  Being unique is a self-honor. It is

others, it is something that would give
you the highest tittle that others don’t
know and can’t see. There are ways of
showing that you are unique; by
means of proving yourself to others,
by means of showing your true color
to other people.
What would you feel if you are
different with other people?  I will apply this uniqueness in helping
other people, I will use the talents that
God had given me, I will use this to
show other people that I am different
that I am a person with dignity and
compassion.

(Students answer vary.)

If you were Mumble, are you willing

to fight for what is right even though it
will take you away from your loved
