Economic Diameter Cal

This document summarizes the design of a pipeline for the Rajanahalli Lift Irrigation Scheme Stage I project. It includes calculations of: 1) Static head and pipe friction losses based on flow rate, pipe size and length. 2) Minimum and maximum pipe wall thickness requirements based on internal design pressure and allowable stress. 3) Loads on the pipe from soil, water above the pipe, and concrete coating. 4) Deflection calculation based on the loads, pipe properties and modulus of soil reaction. Deflection is estimated to be 3.502 mm, within allowable limits. 5) Checking for buckling allowable pressure based on height of water and fill

Deflection = Deflection lag factor x ( K w r3 / EI +0.061 E’ r3)

(Eq. No.6.5 of AWWA M11 Edition 4)

* Deflection lag factor, Dl, accounts for long term deflection as result of consolidation or settlement of backfill material
at the sides of the pipe. For pressure pipe, Dl is 1.0 , because long term deflection are largely prevented by the
supporting action of the internal hydrostatic pressure .
* Underload , the individual elements - i.e., mortar lining, steel shell, and mortar coating - work together as laminated rings .
i.e., Es Is + Ec Ic + El Il

Allowable pipe deflection :-

Motor lined & coated = 2 % of pipe diameter
Motor lined & Flexible coated = 3 % of pipe diameter
Flexible lined & coated = 5 % of pipe diameter

In above case allowable pipe deflection is : 14

Remark :

Checking for BUCKLING

Allowable buckling pressure.
