Lesson 1 Answers

1. The document discusses a lesson on the history of computers, including early machines like the Pascaline calculator and ENIAC. 2. It prompts the learner to identify true and false statements about these early machines. The learner recognizes that calculators are considered early computers and that Blaise Pascal invented the Pascaline calculator. 3. The document reflects on how knowledge of early computer history can be applied, such as to continue technological progress and help improve daily living. It emphasizes understanding the foundational work of pioneers to enable continued innovation.

Activity 1.1.1
Let’s start the lesson with a quick exercise. Given the statements below,  identify
which are true and which one is a lie. Justify your answers to the space  provided. You
may use the web as a reference.

TWO TRUTHS & A LIE

1. Blaise Pascal design is the third functioning mechanical calculator in 1942.

Blaise Pascal designed the first functioning mechanical calculator. He
1942 is not the date of invention because he was already dead by that
time. He designed the first calculator in 1642.

purpose computer.

3. ENIAC is the first general-purpose computer.

Analysis
Activity 1.1.2
Congratulations on performing the first task. For you to move forward, you  must
understand and reflect first on your previous activity. Complete each statement  based
on your experience.
The activity above made me notice and recognize
that calculator is considered a computer. This was invented
by Blaise Pascal.
It made me aware of
There is already a beautiful and useful invention in the early
century that is beneficial in today's century which innovates
and uses it as a gauge to continue life.
Now, I want to learn more on
The history and importance of the early invented computers.
Application
You just learned the history and technological developments of a computer.
Where do you think people could apply this knowledge? You may use the web as a
reference.
This scientific knowledge is useful evidence that there is progress
in the technology. The knowledge being gained can be used in so
many ways like what to do more about the computer we have. The
progress and changes implies that people should seek development
to help the daily living. This could be applied in different research
fields.

REFLECTION/LEARNING INSIGHTS
1. Before taking up this lesson, do you know the history, technological  changes,
and development of a computer? What learnings have you  acquired after this
lesson?
Not into my knowledge that a calculator is a computer but when I
am reading the history of computers, I realized that it was a
specialized computer. I do not have that knowledge that there are
other people involved in the progress of computers. What I know, it
is only Bill Gates who invented computers but when I read so much
about its history, they are many. In addition, I cannot imagine that
the computers before are big but less memory, which is small today
but large memory.

2. What do you think is the importance of understanding the definition and  history of
a computer?
Having a deep knowledge about computers is an advantage. It's
history that keeps the others’ inspired and uses it to do more.
Innovating and developing is the goal and mission of these brainy
people. It is important to understand the history to value every
invention and its significant work. Without its pioneering stage,
maybe we are still living in a low level of life. In able to proceed on
the next level, history and its foundation must be understood.
