Below are some tips and tricks for easier typing of equations!

If using Word, I want you to use the Equation Editor. If you are on a Mac computer and do not have
Word (or MathType to type out equations), you can download the Word report template and upload it
automatically into Google Docs. Do not try to open it before uploading because that will convert it to
.pages and might delete/change some formatting (and symbols/equations I type in Word’s equitation
editor).

Inserting an equation: Inserting an equation:
Alt + n + e + i Sorry, there’s no shortcut for this, you have to

Superscripts: Use shift+6 (^, carat) and put whatever Superscripts: Use shift+6 (^, carat). When done,

Ex: = (C + D)/(A + B) (then press space) function.
Ex: = \frac (then press space) C+D

Multiplication sign: Multiplication sign:
2×3 “\times” (then press space) or 2 ∙ 3 2×3 “\times” (then press space) or 2 ∙ 3

Plus-or-minus: Plus-or-minus:
± = + − (then press space) “\pm” (then press space)

Square root: Use “\sqrt” and put whatever you want Square root: Use “\sqrt” (then press space). Push
under the square root in parentheses the “move right” key to exit this function
Ex: √2 + 3𝑥 ∶ \𝑠𝑞𝑟𝑡(2 + 3) (then press space)
Arrows: Left right arrow:
→ = − > (then press space) → “\rightarrow” (then press space
↔ “\leftrightarrow” (then press space) ↔ “\leftrightarrow” (then press space)
