Line of Control:: Problem Statement

This document provides the rules and specifications for a manually controlled robot race competition. The competition involves two robots - one that loads a block into the second robot which must then navigate obstacles on the track, unload the block, and return to the starting point. Robots will earn points for completing segments of the track and obstacles. The robot that completes the most segments in the least time will win each round. Competing robots must not exceed certain size limits and may only have one block at a time. The competition aims to design robots that can transfer and maneuver loads through an obstacle course.

LINE OF CONTROL:

The Manual Robot Race.

PROBLEM STATEMENT:
Design and build two manually controlled robots, out of which first is used to load a block in the
second robot. This second robot should be able to surpass obstacles & hurdles in its path,
unload the load and then return to the point from where it had started.

BASIC TRACK:
The basic track consists of two symmetric hurdle tracks and task area with separate sections for
both the teams.
The hurdle track consists of hurdles in the following sequence which has to be followed strictly:
Area A →Grooved path → Elevated curve→ Suspension bridge→ Gravels → Bot Washer
→Downward slope →Area B.

NOTE: Reverse track will be followed for the second round.

ROBOT TASKS:
FIRST ROUND:
1. Both the robots will be standing in area A. The first robot will load a block (block
dimensions specified later) in the second robot.
2. This second robot should now overcome the obstacles while carrying this block.
3. Block has to be carried to Area B after clearing the hurdles.
4. Now this block has to be unloaded by the second robot itself in Area B and then has to
return to Area A.

SECOND ROUND:
1. Two teams will compete at a time.
2. Both the robots (Robot 1 & Robot 2) will be standing in Area B.
3. Common blocks for both the teams will be placed in the centre of Area B.
4. As per the rules of Round 1 the Second Robot now has to carry the load from Area B to
Area A.
5. After reaching Area A the unloading of the load has to be done by the robot 2 itself.
6. After unloading the second robot has to return to Area B through the FREE PATHWAY.
7. This task has to be carried out repeatedly for the given time and the team which carries
the maximum blocks in this given time is the winner.

ARENA SPECIFICATIONS:
1. Arena is divided into three parts, Area A, hurdles and Area B.
2. There would be two teams (LHS & RHS) competing each other in the event.
3. The team with maximum secured points reaches to the next round.
4. The next round would include a selected number of teams on the basis of their
rankings decided in the previous round.
5. In case of any tie, a common task would be given on the spot to both the teams
& winner would be decided on the basis of best timing in that task.
DETAILS OF HURDLES:
1. The track width is 30 cm throughout.
2. Path with Grooves.
3. Curved elevated path.
4. Suspension bridge: It will be simply a bridge supported at its ends only. There will
be no side barriers.
5. Gravels.

NOTE: FOR THE PROPER DIMENSIONS SEE THE PART –TRACK DIMENSIONS (HURDLES).
ROBOT SPECIFICATIONS:
ROBOT 1:
1. The robot should be a manually controlled car with required mechanical
setup to complete the task.
2. It should be able to transfer the given load into the second robot.
3. It should not be a Stationary Robot
4. No constraints on height. But width x length should not exceed 40cm x
40cm.
5. No constraints on number of motors for Robot 1.

ROBOT 2:
1. The robot should be a manually controlled car with required mechanical
setup to complete the task.
2. It should be able to unload the load by itself by any mechanism that is
possible.
3. The dimensions of the robot should not exceed 26cm x 26cm (width x
length) when ready for race. It should be capable of carrying the load.
4. Only 1 block can be carried at a time.
5. The robot may reassemble itself as suited once the event commences.
6. No modifications would be allowed after the robot has cleared the first
stage.
7. No constraints on the number of motors used .
8. The weight of the robot should not exceed 2.5kg.
9. No Lego kits or complete car bases allowed.
10. Length of the wires must be sufficient long. To cover the entire arena(
approx 4-5 meter).
SPECIFICATIONS OF THE LOAD:

1. Weight of the load is 200 gms.

2. Dimensions are 10cm x 10cm x 10 cm.
3. Two rods will be inserted in the block to help lifting of the loads as shown in the
above figures.
CONTROLS:
1. The machine has to be necessarily controlled by a wired remote control.
2. The participants cannot make use of wireless controls.
3. Battery Voltage: Maximum allowed is 24 V.
4. Participants will be provided with 230V, 50Hz AC supply.
5. Both the robots should have separate controls.
6. Participants have to bring their own power supply units.

COMPETITION RULES:
1. The objective of the game is to complete the track in the least possible time with
completing the given task.
2. In LOC area the tasks should be strictly followed according to the given sequence failing
which the robots would be disqualified from the race.
3. Jamming circuits, weapons or similar such mechanism which will cause harm to
opponent robot or the arena in any case is strictly not allowed.
4. Checkpoints will be declared on the day of the event.

POINT SCORE SYSTEM:

The points allotted to each line of control are as under:

 20 points=L1= Transferring the load from robot 1 to robot 2.

 10 points=L2= Clearing the grooved track.
 10 points=L3= Climbing the elevated path.
 10 points=L4= Passing the suspension bridge.
 10 points=L5= Passing through the path full of gravels.
 10 points=L6= Clearing the bot washer path.
 10 points=L7= Coming down from the slope.
 20 points=L8= Unloading of the load
Let T = time taken to complete the race.

The formula for calculating the points earn by team-

Pt = ((L1 +L2 +L3 +L4 +L5 +L6 +L7+L8)X 100) / T)

After call of hand touch the bot will be placed at the previous check point.

GENERAL RULES:
1. The teams must adhere to the spirit of healthy competition. Judges reserve the right to
disqualify any team indulging in any misbehavior.
2. Any team that is not ready at the time specified will be disqualified automatically.
3. Judges' decision will be final and binding on all.
