Answer Key
1. D

Force can cause an object to move, change direction, and slow down as well.

2. D

If you roll a ball on the road, the ball will stop if we apply a force on it or on its own due to the
frictional force between the two surfaces.

3. B

The displacement of the sprinter is zero as he is back at the same position that he started from.

4. D

Distance = Speed × Time

Distance = 61 km/h × 9 h = 549 km

5. B

The velocity of an object can be defined as the displacement of the object in unit time.

6. D
Koenigsegg Agera is the fastest car with a speed of 878 km/ 2 h = 439 km/h. Hennessey Venom,

9FF GT9 and Bugatti Veyron have a maximum speed of 434 km/h, 431 km/h and 413 km/h
respectively.

7. D

All the three cars in the graph represent non-uniform motion. The distance and time graph for
uniform motion would be a straight ascending line.

8. C

Acceleration = Change in velocity / time elapsed.

Acceleration = 80-20 m/s / 10 s = 60 m/s / 10 s = 6 m/ s2

9. C

A boat travels at 10 m/s in the first minute, 25 m/s in the second minute and 32 m/s in the third
minute will be an example of variable acceleration as the increase from 10-25-32 m/s is not
uniform.

10. I. B and D II. A III. C

11. D

The bob of a moving pendulum comes to rest after some time due to friction with air. It also
loses energy in the form of heat and sound.
