2. What are all the components of load torque? Define Active load torque and passive
load torque with example.

3. Brief about the different types of control strategies in dc chopper?

4. Why the variable speed applications are dominated by D.C. drives? Why does the
armature voltage control is not preferred for the speed above the rated in dc motor

5. Discuss the constant torque and power mode with respect to induction motor. Also
draw the speed-torque characteristics of Induction motor

6. What are the drawbacks of stator voltage control method? Also state the advantages
and disadvantages of rotor resistance control?

7. Why v/f ratio is kept constant upto base speed and v constant above base speed in
variable frequency control?

8. Compare sinusoidal PMAC with trapezoidal PMAC motor

9. What is field weakening mode control? What are the functions of feedback loops
in an electrical drive?

10. Name any four simulation software packages that can be used for electrical drives.

b (ii)A chopper used to control the speed of a separately excited dc motor, has supply
voltage of 230V, Ton=15ms, Toff=5ms. Assuming continuous conduction of motor
current, calculate the average load current when the motor speed is 3000 rpm.
Assume voltage constant Kv=0.5V/rad/sec and Ra=4Ω (7 Marks)

13 Describe in brief about the control of an Induction motor by stator voltage variation
a using 3-Ф voltage controller.(with reference to both open loop and closed loop) (19

13 (i) Explain the v/f control of induction motor drives. (10 Marks)
b (ii)A 2.8 KW, 400V, 50HZ, 4Pole, 1370 rpm, Delta connected squirrel cage
induction motor has following parameters referred to the stator: Rs= 2 , Rs= 5 ,
Xs= Xr’= 5 and Xm=80 . Motor speed is controlled by stator voltage control.
When driving a fan load it runs at rated speed at rated voltage. Calculate motor
terminal voltage, current and torque at 1200 rpm.(9 marks)

14 Describe the open loop v/f control of VSI fed synchronous motor drives.(10 marks)
