Unit 1 Writing Test

1. What is a custom in your country for greeting someone you have never met before? What is
acceptable behavior in meeting a stranger? Use at least two sentences to describe how to greet
someone new.

2. Tell about a thrilling, fascinating or frightening experience you’ve had. Write at least two
sentences.

1. The custom that I have when I greet someone I have never met before, is to shake hands and
greet cordially.

An acceptable behavior when meeting a stranger is to make a positive impression, like a warm
smile, an introduction that includes your first and last name and a welcoming comment.

2. I've had several fascinating experiences, one of which was when I traveled to Chile and I saw the
snow for the first time. I was fascinated.

A frightening experience was when I traveled in airplane for the first time and there was a
turbulence of 30 minutes. I was frightened but in the end, everything went very well.

Unit 2 Writing Test


1.  You arrive late to meet a friend. Apologize and give a reason for being late.
2.  Your friend has asked you to go to a horror movie. Tell your friend whether or not you like
this genre of movie and why.

1. Oh my friend! Sorry for keeping you waiting, but I was waiting for the bus for more than thirty 
minutes and in theend the driver didn't see me, so I missed the bus.

2. No, I wouldn't. I can't stand horror films. I like comedy films most rather than horror ones, beca
use, I like laughingand I enjoy it. it's full of fun and makes me happy.

Unit 3 Writing Test


You are going on a vacation with your family or a good friend. Write at least five sentences
about the hotel where you will stay. For example, write about the type of room you will need
and any features or services you want the hotel to have.

I'd like to travel with my family the next summer to Cartagena.

1. We'll need a hotel that is near to sea, the location must be perfect.

2. We'll pay more for a hotel that is very comfortable and offers a lot of services, like a Wi-Fi
service, restaurants, free breakfast, 24-hour front desk.

3. In addition, the hotel should have features clean rooms and wonderfully comfortable beds for a
good night's sleep.
4. We'll need a single room for my parents and a double room for my brother and me. The type of
bed could be queen-size and twin.

5. It's important that the room type is non-smoking.

6. Other services and facilities are: in room-minibar, laundry service, bell service and room service.

Unit 4 Writing Test

Write about someone you know who is a very good or a very bad driver. Discuss his/her driving
habits. Write at least four sentences.

My dad is a very good driver, because his job is to drive a car, specifically an SUV.

He has been driving for many years and his driving habits are quite good, for example, he's used to
driving long distances and he've obtained a lot of experience.

When he has to send some message, he stops and sends it, or he talks on the phone.

He observes the speed limit and he pays attention, he also maintains a safe following distance.

He uses turn signals to let other drivers know what he's gonna do before doing it. And before
changing lanes, he always looks over his shoulders to check the "blind spots"

UNIDAD 5 REVIEW

I think my girlfriend Angelica is a relly beautiful person. She has a lot of inner beauty because she's 
attractive andhealthy. She has beautiful skin, brown eyes and her teeth. She's warm.

I think my neighbor Maria is a really beautiful person. She has a lot of inner beauty. She is very
warm and friendly. Even when she is busy, she makes time to stop and say hello. And she likes to
help everyone. For example, if you are carrying a lot of things, she will always offer to help.
Sometimes she also brings me gifts. For example, last week she made me a cake. She loves to help
people and to be kind. She is also very attractive. She has long black hair and pretty brown eyes.
But I think her inner beauty is more important.

Unit 5 Writing Test


What do you do to look and feel good? For example, do yoga, go to a salon, etc. Write at least
five sentences.

To see and feel me good, I usually do sports like playing soccer and basketball.

Once a month, I go to the hairdresser for a haircut. My hair grows very fast.

I have a beard, but I shave myself. I use some razors with shaving cream. I shave every 5 days.

I like that my nails look good, for example, I always use a nail clipper and a nail file.
Every day, I use shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste and sunscreen, because it's important to feel
good and clean.

Choose one of these two topics. Write at least five sentences for the chosen topic.

My favorite movie.

I consider my favorite movie is "Deadpool", because this movie has lots of different genres, like
comedy, action, it's very bloody, and funny movie.

A few days ago, "Deadpool 2" was released and I went to see it at the cinema with my girlfriend.
She also likes this kind of movies.

I hope that in the future, they'll make the third movie. It would be fantastic.

In addition, there's another movie that I really like, it's called " The Purge", it's a horror movie and
a lot of violence.

The Purge has three seasons and on July 4th was the premiere of The Purge 4, but I've not seen it
yet, because it's only in the USA. When this movie is available in Colombia, I'll see it without
hesitation.

Unit 6 Writing Test


Write about two famous dishes from your country. Describe the taste of the dishes and why you
like them. Write at least five sentences.

1. "Tamales Tolimenses"

- Tamal is a tipical dish in Colombian cuisine, for example, in the Tolima region of Colombia it's
traditional to eat Tamal Tolimense for breakfast with hot chocolate, bread and arepa.

- I'm a big Tamal eater, because, the filling in this dish is chicken, pork belly, pork ribs, boiled egg,
carrots, peas, potatoes, rice, condiments, and masa and all wrapped with plantain leaves. The
taste is salty.

2. "Arroz con Pollo" (Colombian style Rice with Chicken)

- Rice with Chicken is one of the most popular dishes in Colombia, but every country has their own
variation.

- I love "arroz con pollo" because the flavor, it has a little bit of everything, chicken, seasoned rice,
all kinds of vegetables, sauce, it's simply delicious.

- You can add tomato sauce to add more color because an arroz con pollo with chicken breast
pieces that are white and pale isn't very appetizing, even if they're bursting with flavor.
Unit 7 Writing Test
Are you an introvert or an extrovert? Give reasons to explain your answer. Write at
least five sentences.

I consider myself introverted, for example, I prefer hobbies like going out to play sports, I
enjoy watching a good movie or reading a book.
On an emotional level, things affect me considerably, it depends on the events.
People think of me as a person who adapts to the circumstances and depending on who
they think, more or less likeable.
I consider myself an optimistic person and I try to have everything organized, but if I don't
have time, nothing happens.
In general, my degree of sociability is moderate.

Unit 8 Writing Test


Describe a piece of art that you like or don't like. Why do/don't you like it? Write at
least five sentences.

I'm going to write about "Roman Soldier on Horse Statue"


In my house, we have a Roman soldier on horse statue, it's made of ceramic.
I like this kind of art, because it's a beautifully hand painted statue, it features an
impressive level of detail.
This statue features a Roman warrior dressed for battle on the back of his horse, he holds
a sword in one hand, and a large shield in the other.
It's a great home decor piece or gift idea.
Actually, I would like to learn more about Roman history and culture.

Unit 9 Writing Test


Do you think that people's lives are better because of computers? Give reasons to
explain your answer. Write at least five sentences.

I think that people's lives are better because of computers:

1. Computers can facilitate communications and can promote interpersonal relationships between
people.

2. On health, computers have been used to help the doctor visualize the diagnose of the disease.
3. Computers can ease us with different tasks such as buying travel tickets and stays.

4. Computers help us as students to do a better job. For example, you can use word, excel and so
on, for jobs and research.

5. The computer has become a fundamental tool for everyone, who has a computer has a
workstation, communications, entertainment, studies and much more.

Unit 10 Writing Test


Write about some of your personal values. Use at least one of the words or phrases

1. I consider myself an honest person, for me it's the most important value, because you must be
able to consider it when we're in dilemma.

2. I pursue and learn about new things and ideas, I try to look for the truth and be known by
others as an intelligent person and feel smart.

3. I think about integrity, to be consistently open, ethical and genuine.

4. I maintain a code of ethics, a sense of right and wrong to comply with the standards of society,

Final Exam Writing Test 1
What are some things a safe driver does? What are some things a safe driver does
NOT do? Write at least five sentences.

Some things a safe driver does:

1. Use their headlights, this can be important during rain or snowfall than can hinder visibility.
Also, when you use your signals, you are alerting other drivers of your intentions to turn.

2. Adjust mirrors, this can increase your visibility of the entire space and remove the blind spots.
You should be sure that all your mirrors are properly adjusted.

3. Be aware, keep your eyes on the road, hands on the steering wheel, you should keep your
cellphone away and focus on the road.

4. Plan your route in advance for long car trips.

5. Observe the speed limit and pays attention, you must also maintain a safe following distance.

Some things a safe driver does NOT do:

1. Preventive maintenance, many drivers don't control the tire pressure, fluids and batteries. This
can cause problems and accidents on the road.

2. When a driver travels by car for long distances, driver doesn't keep a map or atlases in the car in
case he gets lost. It could happen that the cellphone doesn't work.

3. Many times, the co-pilot doesn't use the seat belt.

4. Some drivers aren't polite with other drivers or they make gestures to other drivers.
