Nov 2008 – Present Sales Assistant
Londis (Nisa-Today), 83 Broad Street, Sheffield, S2 5TL
In this position I take care of the running of the shop whilst on my shift. It is only a small store
and no members of management are present when I am usually working. Duties include working
on the tills and general customer care, stock replenishment, stock rotation, merchandising and
cleaning.
My other responsibilities include cashing up and closing down the store at the end of the night.
The ability to work independently and efficiently is a key skill in this role. I have been able to
apply my skills and knowledge from previous roles to identify work which needs to be done even
when all of my other tasks have been completed. I work to a high standard and pride myself on
my customer service.
Having started work for Home Bargains in 2006 as a general sales assistant, my ability to work to
an exceptionally high standard without compromising my timekeeping or my ability to interact
with customers lead me to be promoted to a managerial role within the store.
As a member of management I effectively distributed that days delivery between staff and made
sure that it was worked, I took care of any problems at the tills such as returns or customer
complaints, completed daily administrative duties, carried out major merchandising within the
store, cashed up of all of the stores cash registers, and delegated other minor duties.
Patience, prioritisation and time keeping were the key skills which I developed whilst working at
Home Bargains, and all of which I think are vital when working in a professional environment.
I left this role to pursue a university career at Sheffield Hallam University.
Whilst in sixth form education I was asked to participate in a scheme where 4 students from Year
13 tutored students which were in lower years, mainly those studying in Years 9 and 11, in
preparation for their exams. Mathematics, English literature, English language, and Science are
the subjects which I tutored, mathematics in particular. Not only did we help with specific
subjects we also offered advice about revising for exams and managing time and work effectively.
Working part time whilst studying for my A-Levels I joined a small team and helped with general
admin tasks within the leisure centre. My main responsibilities were to make sure that class fees
and room rents were paid, as well as making sure that classes and timetables were full through
advertising for the centre and recruiting instructors. Using my initiative I also created promotional
materials for the different instructors and independent professionals which worked at Rawson
Leisure.
At 14 I was employed in an upholsterer’s workshop to help with the repair of antique and
dilapidated furniture. Using traditional techniques I was able to learn basic upholstery and an
understanding of how some types of furniture are constructed. This was the first time I developed
a sense of customer care, as well as working in the warehouse I worked on the shop floor and
answered phone calls when the lines were busy. I was the often the first contact that customers
had with the business and I learned to act in a professional manor.

Skills
Teamwork, leadership and organisation – group tasks at university and my event organisation
whilst Head Boy have contributed to my development of these skills. I can prioritise work and
delegate appropriately to make sure that tasks are competed.
Communication – I have always been able to communicate well on a professional level and all of
my previous roles have given me and understanding that different
circumstances demand a different approach.
Information technology – I am able to fully utilise most features of Microsoft Word, Excel, and
PowerPoint as well as a moderate understanding of AutoCAD. I can also use computers for
research and communication.
