Stellarium Assignment
Complete this assignment by writing finding the different objects in Stellarium. Type the objects
into the search bar or search for them yourself. Some answers will be in the description on the
left when you click on the object.

1. Find the star Polaris. What is another name for it? What constellation is it a part of? (2
marks)

2. Zoom in far enough and watch. You will see some objects that look like little green lines
moving through the sky. What are they? (Hint: type in “Globalstar 1” in the search bar)

3. Find the star Betelgeuse. What colour is the star? What constellation is it a part of? Is it
the brightest star in that constellation? (3 marks)

4. Now find Rigel. What colour is the star? What constellation is it a part of? Is it the
brightest star in that constellation? (3 marks)

5. Find two planets and write them down. What colour are they? What are they named
after? How big are they compared to the stars? (3 marks)

6. Find the Pleiades. What constellation is it a part of? How is it different from other stars?
Look up the logo for the car company Subaru. Notice anything similar about the two? (3
marks)

7. Find the object M31. What is another name for it? What type of object is it? (2 marks)
