Dc9 Normal Checklist, Expanded.: Obs - Only For Flightsim - Obs
Expanded check list intended to be used with the DC-41 panel v.4.
This checklist is a copy of the one found in SAS DC9 AOM from May 2001.
Some items are slightly modified and/or not applicable to FS9.
Stellan Hilmerby.
1. GENERAL
The main purpose of the Expanded Check List is to establish and explain the action or actions
to be taken in connection with each item on the Normal Check List. Furthermore, the
Expanded Check List includes standard procedures for engine starting and serves as a
reference list to pertinent information included elsewhere in the AOM.
The following procedures for check list reading/system testing shall be applied:
- The complete Prestart Check List including tests shall be performed before the
first flight of the day, or when the Commander deems it necessary.
- After crew change following the first flight of the day or at intermediate stops
when both pilots leave the aircraft, the complete Prestart Check List shall be
read but no system tests need to be performed, only switch positions checked/set
unless Expanded Check List requires system testing.
“P” after an item indicates that the item contains actions for both pilots as specified in this
document. The item shall be answered by both L/P and R/P before the next item is called out.
- AFTER START Check list is divided into two parts. Either AFTER START,
NORMAL or AFTER START, DE-ICING AWAY FROM GATE. Check list
shall be ordered, dependent on de-icing situation. AFTER START, DE-ICING
AWAY FROM GATE check List has two variants, De-icing with engines
running or De-icing with engines stopped.

WARNING.
The A/C clear signal must be received from the ground attendant before flaps/slats is
selected.
To ensure that this check is being done from both sides at regular intervals, the flight controls
shall be checked by the pilot who is going to fly (PF).
CAUTION.
To prevent cracks and other damages to develop in the flight control system it is of outmost
importance that the following flight control check is performed smoothly. Therefore,
use only light forces and low travel rates. Extreme positions shall be approached
slowly, especially when checking rudder where hydraulic power and the inertial
forces of rudder surface enhance the load on the A/C.
- Check that Cabin Report has been received which implies that the relevant
instructions in FOM has been complied with.
- On flights with no C/A on board, the FP is responsible for ensuring that the cabin is
clear and galleys secured, and slides connected.

switch to OVRD.
- Both pilots compare actual QNH/QFE with forecast value and set, simultaneously,
their feet altimeters to actual QNH/QFE.
- Both pilots crosscheck the two feet altimeters by calling out the hPa-setting and the
indicated altitude.
- Both pilots check APS setting and APS BARO display.
- If the above requirements are met with, the check list is completed to item 9 an
APPROACH Check list.
7. CLIMB
To be read by PNF.
- Check that landing gear is up, i.e all gear lights off.
- Set gear handle to UPLATCH CHECK.
- Check that all gear lights remain off.
- After a few seconds, return gear handle to UP.
This check shall be made at a speed below 300 kt/M 0.7 and after Climb Check List has been
Ordered. To be sure that the gear is actually resting on the uplatches, it is necessary to stay
In UPLATCH CHECK for a few seconds. If any landing gear starts to extend, reduce speed
below 225 before retuning gear handle to UP.
If departure clearance restricts climb to an altitude, below transition altitude, this item shall be
delayed until clearance to FL has been received.
- Set AIR COND AUTO SHUTOFF switch to OVRD before reaching 10 000 ft.
- Check cabin pressure and rate of climb to be normal for prevailing conditions.
- Check air condition supply pressure to be normal.
- Leave main pumps ON and (if center tank contains fuel) leave center fuel pump
switches in ON.

flight controls (e.g. bottles, cups etc).
9. APPROACH
To be read by PNF.
- This item shall normally be called approximately 10 min before landing in order to
give the C/As adequate time to finish sales, check cabin and secure their equipment.
- Check that depressurization proceeds normally and that cabin altitude reaches field
elevation before landing.
- When reading this item, PNF shall add actual transition level, e.g.”Check list
completed to transition level 55”.
When setting QNH/QFE latest at transition level, PF calls out: “Complete check list to
landing gear” and PNF continues reading the check list.
- Both pilots compare actual QNH/QFE with forecast value and set, simultaneously,
their feet altimeters to actual QNH/QFE.
The change in altimeter setting from 1013 hPa to local QNH/QFE, as applicable, can
be made at the time clearance to an altitude is issued, provided that, after the descent
has been commenced, level flight above the transition level is not intended or
anticipated.
- Both pilots crosscheck the two feet altimeters by calling out th hPa-setting and the
indicated altitude.
- If conditions in flight or on ground require engine anti-ice, set ENG anti-ice switches
to ON, one at a time.
8. Check list completed to Landing Gear.
Items 9 - 12 may be read by heart. However, the check list shall not be stowed away until
completed.
- Check that the three green LDG GEAR lights are on.
- Check that GEAR UNSAFE lights and the GEAR DOOR OPEN light are off.
- When gear down and locked, check that AUTO SPOILER DO NOT USE light is off
and ARM spoilers by finger tip application.
After a go-around directly followed by an approach without flight above transition altitude:
This check list may replace the Climb, Descent and Approach check list at the Commanders
discretion to reduce flight deck workload after a go-around followed by an approach without
considerable delay, and without flight above transition altitude. Should a climb above
transition altitude or a longer holding be necessary, normal check list routine shall be adopted.
- If the above requirements are met with, the check list is completed to item 9 in
APPROACH Check List.
- L/P should retract spoilers during rollout when proper stopping of the aircraft is
definitely ascertained, to minimize the risk of foreign object entering the spoiler
mechanism.
- In connection with continued flight in the same aircraft, leave RNAV switch in ON.
CAUTION.
After approach and landing in heavy icing conditions, do not retract the flaps beyond 15 to
prevent damage from accumulated ice. Notify maintenance about possible ice accumulation.
11. PARKING
To be read by R/P.
- Engage parking brakes and check PARKING BRAKES ON light come on.
- Check brake pressure to be min 1 500 psi.
- Release parking brakes when chocks are in place and both engines stopped, unless
parking in strong wind, on slippery apron or other circumstances make it
impractical.
If brake temperature 200ºC or more, or if hot brakes are suspected, inform ground personnel.
If ground ventilation not required set R AIR CONDITION SUPPLY switch to OFF.
- Check engine oil quantity when N2 static and within 10 minutes. At line stations,
observe minimum 10 quarts before takeoff. At base stations (CPH, OSL and STO)
make an entry in the Aircraft Log if the oil quantity is below 13 quarts, and state the
actual oil level reading(s).
11. Aircraft Log............................................... SIGN.................... CDR.
- The Commander enters applicable remarks and signs the Aircraft Log.
When suitable, always inform MF/SH as early as possible when arriving with snags.
At any airport, if you are not met by a mechanic when parking and external power is not
available, shut down the APU and select BATT switch OFF before leaving the aircraft.
Check emergency lights to be off.
