4. Solve the simultaneous equations 12. Find the coordinates where the straight
4x − 4y = 24 lines below cross.

18. If twice the age of son is added to age of father, the sum is 56. But if twice the age of the father
is added to the age of son, the sum is 82. Find the ages of father and son.
19. Alan and Connor have £6.70 in total. Alan has £1.70 more than Connor. Set up a pair of
simultaneous equations and solve to find out how much each person has.
20. A store sells milkshakes and ice creams. If you buy 4 milkshakes and 3 ice creams, it will cost
£12. If you buy 2 milkshakes and 2 ice creams, it will cost £7. Work out the cost of an
individual milkshake and an individual ice cream.
21. Three bananas and two pears cost £0.95. Five bananas and three pears cost £1.5. Find the
cost of ten bananas and ten pears.
22. You can buy two types of ticket on a train: adult and child. The cost of buying 2 adult tickets and 3
child tickets would be £20. The cost of buying one of each type would be £8.50. Work out the cost
of a single adult ticket and a single child ticket.
23. Andre has more money than Bob. If Andre gave Bob $20, they would have the same amount.
While if Bob gave Andre $22, Andre would then have twice as much as Bob. How much does
each one actually have?
24. 1000 tickets were sold. Adult tickets cost $8.50, children's cost $4.50, and a total of $7300
was collected. How many tickets of each kind were sold?
