14 better comprehend what you read. Oftentimes, you need to arrange,

15 cluster, and present the ideas in the story in creative ways and use

16 several tools that can visually represent your thoughts. In this module,

17 you will go through an adventure with several missions where you will

18 be guided to sharpen your skills in organizing your ideas from the

12 yourselves with the different elements that make up a story.

14 Listen carefully as I discuss to you the elements of a story.

15 Lets start with the Setting, (PAUSE)

16 Setting refers to the time and place in which the events of the story

17 occurred. It talks about the weather, social and cultural conditions, and

18 atmosphere. Example, in the story of Daedalus and Icarus, the setting

19 is Crete. Right? Moving on, next element is the Character. (PAUSE)

1 Character refers to the Person or animal who takes part in the action of

2 the story. Example, from the story that you read, The main characters

3 in the story are Daedalus and Icarus.

5 Next element is, the Plot (PAUSE)

6 The Plot refers to the series of events in the story. This speaks of the

7 sequence of events of the story, from the beginning to the ending.

8 Can you follow? Great! Next element is Conflict. (PAUSE)

9 Conflict, refers to the problem or the opposition of forces which ties one

10 incident to another. Example, from the story you read, the conflict there

11 is the moment when Icarus did not listen to his father which resulted to

12 the incident. Did you get that? Awesome!

13 Next element is the Point of View. (PAUSE)

14 Point of view refers to the angle from which the story is told. Example

15 for the First person point of view is the use of pronoun “I”, second

16 person is the use of “You” and third person is with the use of pronouns

17 “he/she/it”. in the story of Daedalus and Icarus, it is in the third person

18 point of view. The story was told by a narrator who is not a

19 character in the story. (PAUSE)

1 Are you still there? Great! The last element is the Theme (PAUSE)

2 Theme, refers to the controlling idea or central argument the author is

3 trying to convey. The prominent themes in the story of Daedalus and

4 Icarus are technology and pride.

6 Alright, Moving on, let us also discuss the five stages of plot that you

7 must know. (PAUSE)

8 First stage is, the Introduction/Exposition- This is the beginning of the

9 story where the characters and the setting are revealed.

11 This is where the events in the story become complicated and the

12 conflict in the story is revealed.

13 Third stage is, Climax, this is the highest point of interest and the

14 turning point of the story.

15 Next stage is, Falling Action. This is where the events and

16 complications begin to resolve themselves.

17 Last stage is, Denouement/Resolution- This is the final outcome or

18 untangling of events in the story.

3 During the preliminary activities, you encountered the words Graphic

4 organizers. This time I will elaborate the explanation about Graphic

5 organizers. Are you ready to listen? Great! If you find it hard to follow

6 me and if you are curious about how these graphic organizers look you

7 may refer to your modules. Let us begin!

8 Concept Map, concept map is a general organizer that shows central

9 idea with its corresponding characteristics. Concept Map can take

10 many different shapes which is excellent for brainstorming, activating

11 prior knowledge or generating synonyms.

12 Next is, Flow Diagram or Sequence Chart, Flow Diagram or Sequence

13 Chart is a chart that shows series of steps or events in the order in

14 which they take place. Any concept that has distinct order can be

15 displayed in this type of organizer.

17 Next is, the Venn Diagram, Venn Diagram is used to identify the

18 similarities and differences between two or more concepts.

19 Next is, The Cause-and-Effect Diagram, Cause-and-Effect Diagram

3 Plot Diagram, Plot diagram is used to show the series of events

6 essential details in a story will be easier if one will be able to plot the

7 elements of story using a graphic organizer. Graphic organizers or

8 even any other type of textual aids also make it easier to gather

9 information from any reading text. Text aids also help readers,

10 especially students like you to understand any reading text better. Did
