Course Description
During this semester, you will study motion, forces, momentum, work, power, and energy. The concept of waves will provide you
with an application of energy in transition. We will explore light and sound phenomenon, electricity, and magnetism. Our semester
will conclude with a study of modern physics and radioactivity. We will investigate physics concepts through a variety of activities,
labs, and group projects where you will apply your understanding of physics to solve problems drawn from several real-world
examples. Along the way, I encourage you to ask questions about how scientists and engineers actually use this knowledge to
produce new products or help solve challenges facing humanity. No Physical Labs at Home.

GRADING SYSTEM: The DeKalb County School District believes that the most important assessment of student
learning shall be conducted by the teachers as they observe and evaluate students in the context of ongoing
classroom instruction. A variety of approaches, methodologies, and resources shall be used to deliver educational
services and to maximize each student’s opportunity to succeed. Teachers shall evaluate student progress, report
grades that represent the student’s academic achievement, and communicate official academic progress to
students and parents in a timely manner through the electronic grading portal. See Board Policy IHA.
 Virtual Learning Platform: Microsoft Teams and VERGE All the meetings will take place through
Microsoft Teams. The assignments will be uploaded on VERGE and Teams.
IT MEANS, WE LOGIN 5 MINUTES BEFORE OUR CLASS STARTS.
FAQ FOR LOGIN:

1. What do we do after we login to the computer?

STEP ONE: GO TO VERGE AND SEE DAILY ATTENDANCE ASSIGNMENT.

DISTRICT EXPECTATIONS FOR SUCCESS

STUDENT We issue progress reports at 4.5 weeks, 9.0 weeks, and 13.5 weeks during each semester. We
PROGRESS evaluate student progress frequently and generate remediation plans as deficiencies are
discovered. Plans shall include appropriate interventions designed to meet the needs of the
students. See Board Policy IH.

ACADEMIC Students shall not engage in academic dishonesty including (but not limited to) cheating, providing
INTEGRITY false information, falsifying school records, forging signatures, or using an unauthorized computer
user ID or password. (Code of Student Conduct - Student Rights and Responsibilities and
Character Development Handbook.)

HOMEWORK A homework assignment is a meaningful application and adaptation of skills we practice during
class, an extension of the teaching / learning experience. We consider it your student’s
possession, so we collect, evaluate, and returned it to them as soon as possible to improve their
learning. (Board Policy IHB.)

MAKE-UP WORK The student or parent should contact the instructor via email as soon as possible if they know they
will be absent for any reason. When advance notice is not possible, students should explain their
DUETO absence the next time they return to school.
ABSENCES
Students receive an opportunity to earn grades for missed work when absent because of a legal
reason as defined by Georgia law or when the absence is apparently beyond the control of the
student. Make-up work must be completed within the designated time allotted. (Board Policy
IHEA.)

CLASSROOM I have high expectations for this class! I am willing to help and work with you in anyway, however
EXPECTATIONS slacking off will not be tolerated. It is quite easy to pass my class—here’s how you do it:
 Come to class on time (LOGIN 5 MINS BEFORE THE TIME) and be ready to work when the
bell rings (VIRTUAL BELL)! I start on time!!!
DONOT START YOU VIDEO OR AUDIO UNTIL INSTRUCTED.
 Do your best work (homework/classwork, studying, labs, group and individual participation)
 Pay attention in class! Ask questions when you do not understand.
 Take good notes.
 Complete your projects/assignments on time and to the best of your ability.
 Work cooperatively with your peers, no matter who they are!
 Most important—keep up!!! Homework will be assigned and is crucial to your success.
 Don’t get behind…it’s a lot harder to catch up than to stay on task!
 Follow all lab safety guidelines – You will lose lab privileges upon violation of these!!
 Follow all policies in student handbook (Tardies, absences, cheating, course repair, academic
indifference)

MATERIALS AND All students must have a binder capable of holding all course materials, a lab notebook, and a
SUPPLIES pen or pencil every day. We encourage you to purchase a scientific calculator.

EXTRA HELP List your schedule for help sessions here.

PARENTS AS All DeKalb teachers encourage parents and guardians to follow their student’s progress online.
PARTNERS Students will sign off on their grades every two weeks to ensure they know exactly where they
stand in the class. Parents are encouraged to contact the instructor via email when they have
questions or concerns. It is the students’ responsibility to ensure they succeed in the course.
