CBE Software/Question Database

Installation Checklists

PRIOR TO INSTALLATION Tick When Checked/


Performed

1 Decide on a network or a standalone installation.

2 Ensure the students can print two copies of their Provisional Results Notification immediately after the examination

3 Remove all previous versions of ACCA’s CBE software prior to installation of the web-based software.

4 Ensure that no other programs are running before commencing the installation of the software

5 Install CBE Operating Software before the Question Database Setup on each standalone pc/on the server pc

6 Please ensure that all pcs to be used for examinations are set to the current date (dd/mm/yy format).

7 Please check that you can arrange for the correct permissions to be given to the CBE installation folder after installation

8 Please ensure that the screen resolution on all pcs that will be used for examinations is set to a minimum of 800 x 600,
although ACCA recommends 1024 x 768

9 On all pcs, please ensure the Regional Settings are set to the POINT (the full stop) as the decimal symbol and the COMMA
as the digit grouping symbol

10 If students are logging on with their individual profiles, please ensure that for the examination session, their profiles do not
over-write the regional settings above.

11 Windows 95 users – you must install DCOM95 before running any exams. Please see Software Installation Overview
section of CBE Centre Lounge.

12 Windows NT Workstation / Windows 2000 Professional network installation – A maximum of 5 clients will be able to
connect to the server machine at any one time. Please consider this when installing the software and running the
examinations – it may be necessary to set up more than one server pc. This restriction can be avoided by installing the
CBE software on Windows NT Server or Windows 2000 Server.

13 Check that you have no installed security software which prevents an empty folder being created. If you do, please remove
this temporarily to allow the installation of our software.

14 Check that you have no installed security software which prevents files with ‘.sini’ or unrecognised file extensions being
installed. If you do, please remove this temporarily to allow the installation of our software.

AFTER INSTALLATION Tick When Checked/


Performed

1 Check that the “i-assess.sini” file exists in the installation folder of either the standalone pcs or on the server pc of a network
installation. If not, please refer to our Troubleshooting Guide.

2 Check that the Output folder exists in the installation folder of either the standalone pcs or on the server pc of a network
installation. If not, please refer to our Troubleshooting Guide.

3 Check that the shortcuts have been set up as per the instructions in sections 3.2.1 or 3.2.2 of the Operating Manual.

4 Please ensure that either Full Control or Read/Write/Execute/Delete (or equivalent) permissions are given to students/users/
pcs to the whole CBE installation folder. Please see the Software Installation pages and the Troubleshooting Guide for
full instructions.

5 Please ensure that you test the system, as outlined in the Operating Manual.
