Answer the following questions:
The major components of a building’s electrical power system may be arranged in three major
categories: wiring, utilization equipment and power handling equipment. Wiring is the electrical
power distribution through the wires in a perfect manner for economic use of wiring
conductors inside a room or building with better load control. Utilization equipment are
equipment that utilizes electric energy after the point of outlet for electronic, electromechanical,
chemical, heating, lighting, or similar purposes. Power handling equipment includes transformers,
switchboards, panel board, large switches and circuit breakers. Transformer is a device for changing
the voltage of an alternating current by electromagnetic induction. Switchboard is an apparatus for
varying connections between electric circuits. A panel board is one or more metal cabinets that serve
as a single unit, including buses, automatic overcurrent protection devices (fuses or circuit breakers).
A circuit breaker is an overcurrent protection device that serves as a switch that can be opened and
closed manually, and most importantly, it automatically “trips off,” which opens the circuit when
current flowing through it exceeds the circuit rating.
Electrical construction drawings show the layout and design of an electrical installation. A
complete set of construction drawings and specifications of the building electrical system is
needed to convey design information to the contractor. The following construction drawings and
details are generally required: complete plans and specifications of all electrical work; labeling
criteria of all electrical equipment; lighting floor plan(s) including electrical circuits indicating
conduit and wiring sizes; power floor plans including electrical circuits indicating conduit and
wiring sizes; equipment, and disconnect switches; exit sign/means of egress lighting location and
power supply; panelboard schedule; lighting fixture schedule; and symbol schedule and
diagrams.

To be sustainable, systems should recover operating costs and last as long as is required to fulfil their
purpose. They should be built to last and not be susceptible to early failure or replacement. They
should also be reusable or recyclable at the end of their useful life. Creating sustainable products is
not just about tweaking a design here and there, but about adopting a new approach to product
design which builds sustainability into every aspect of its development.
