Ms. Alyssa Marie C. Paisan General Physics 2 Stem-Science Unit University of The East - Caloocan

This document contains a physics lesson on electric fields. It reviews how to add vectors, defines net electric force as the total electric forces acting on a charge, provides examples of free body diagrams, and presents sample problems for students to solve involving the direction and magnitude of electrical forces between multiple charges. Students are instructed to submit their answers to problems through a Padlet link.

Recall: How do we add vectors?
 Same direction: Add. Copy the direction.
 Opposite directions: Subtract. Copy the direction
with higher magnitude.
 Forming right angles: Use Pythagorean equation
for magnitude. Use inverse tangent for angle.
Identify the quadrant of the resultant to get the
direction.
 Two or more not forming right angle: component
method of adding vectors.

Sample Problem No. 1
A charge q1 = +5 nC is placed at the origin of an xy-
coordinate system and a charge q2 = −2 nC is placed on
the positive x-axis at x = 4 cm. If a third charge q3 = +6 nC
is now placed on x = -6 cm, find the magnitude and
direction of the electrical force acting on this charge.
