The Role of the Church Hierarchy

a. What is the role of the church in the Philippines today?

The role of the church in the Philippines today is to be the peacemaker of this troubled
country. As a peacemaker, the church looks into the beauty of things even if it is not good
enough. The church seeks positiveness from all of the negativity the country is currently
undergoing. The church sees situations with a silver lining wherein negativity could no longer
grow. The church is a peacemaker since it is aiming to stop the violence, despair and problems
that Filipinos encounter these current times. Its role is also to evangelize people to do the right
things and open there mind for the word of the Lord . It also aims to stop the killings and to
protect human rights because of the inhumane deeds happening in our society lately. It is also to
help lessen the sufferings of those people who are encountering many hindrances and also to
bring peace to peoples' heart and also for the betterment of the nation.

b. What is our common vocation and mission. Explain.

Peace is our common vocation and mission. In this world full of conflicts, hatred and
judgement, not only in a physical aspect, but also in the spiritual side, as a church, we strive to
remain steadfast in doing our common vocation and mission to actively work for peace. We need
to maintain peacefulness in spite of all the problems, issues and wars on different aspects in our
society. We should deal with these adversities with a faith in Him, not of little faith, but of a
great faith that these conflicts and turmoils will be dealt with in a proper way.Peace is not easy to
achieve, there will be problems or temptations that stop you from doing the right things or being
faithful. But if you always put God in the center of your life and absorb His word of life, those
problems and temptations will be vanished and this is the time that peace will exist.

c. How does the Church counter the recent attacks against our faith and the hierarchy?

The Church countered the recent attack against our faith and the hierarchy by responding
with a blessing of the word of God. Like what St. Paul said, “When we are insulted, we respond
with a blessing; when we are persecuted, we bear it patiently; when slandered, we respond gently”
(1 Cor 4:12-13). The church responded to the attack just like how Christ wanted His people to do.
Christ does not want us to return evil for evil because goodness still wins over evil deeds. He had
nothing but words of mercy towards His tormentors since vengeance is never the way of Christ.

d. Reflect on the role of the church leaders in the present time? What are your
realizations?

Church leaders in the present time is having a hard time because of the attacks of the
President towards the church, however, they responded in a manner of Christ which I believe,
inspired and strengthened Christians all over the country. Church leaders have their own
weaknesses, like we do. What’s important is to overcome these weaknesses by gaining strength
from the Lord. I realized that when you put Christ in the center of everything you do, all things
will flow according to His plans and we just need to trust and have faith in Him. AMEN.
