The document summarizes a student's lab journal for their Human Computer Interaction course. It details two tasks: [1] performing a heuristic evaluation of a UI based on Nielsen's criteria, noting issues with error prevention; and [2] preparing recommendations to address issues identified with visibility, aesthetics, consistency, and error prevention, prioritizing improved typography, streamlined design, standardized navigation, and error handling. The student received full marks for completing both tasks.

Lab Journal 8
(Fall 2020)

Course: Human Computer Interaction Lab Date:

Course Code: SEL - 320 Max Marks: 20
Faculty’s Name: Lab Engineer:

Name: Mohammad Jasim Waqar Enroll No:03-135172-055

Objective(s):
• Understanding of Heuristic Evaluation.

Lab Tasks:

Task 1: Perform expert evaluation methods on the UI assigned in Lab Journal 7. Heuristic
evaluation of Jakob Neilson, applies a list of heuristics capable of identifying common usability
problems.

 Visibility of system status

 Consistency and standards

 Error prevention
 Aesthetic and minimalist design

 Help users recognize, diagnose, and recover from errors

No way to recover from the error you need to close the website and reopen it in case error
occur.

Task 2: Based on your evaluations, prepare a list of at least three recommendations concerning the
design of the application. In some cases, for applications producing a good evaluation, you may
decide against any recommendations. In these cases, you should still discuss possible changes and
why your group decided against them. Order your list from most important to least important.

 Visibility of system status:

Issue: Poor typography makes it unreadable. Use Random Color text and section which is not
making any sense. Also, not in the proper format.
Recommendation: Use proper color so the text is proper visible. Also make proper format so user
can clearly understand it.
 Aesthetic and minimalist design:

Issue: Design is not proper there are many places where we see so many irrelevant information’s
which make user confuse and distracted. And at some places we only see empty box/sections.
Recommendation: Use proper format which hold the only the relevant information.

 Consistency and standards

Issue: Not following any standards and the website is not in the consistent way so its is so much
challenging for the user to understand which actions does what.
Recommendation: Must follow the proper standard and must be in a proper consistent way so
user can easily explorer the website and use it according to his/her need.
 Error prevention

Issue: As interface is so complex and user get so confused and there is so many chances of error
occurrence but there is no proper way for error handling or its prevention.
Recommendation: Show options clearly to the user so he/she can use then according to there need
and get prevented from error occurring situations.
