TAPOI - CDMA Signal LP - Quick Commissioning Procedure

This document provides a 6-step process for setting up a multi-operator, multi-band optical system with TAPOI and low power remote units using CDMA signals. The steps include: 1) defining the remote unit power target, 2) computing the optical transceiver pin target, 3) measuring the pin, 4) setting the TAPOI attenuation levels, 5) setting the TAPOI power limiter thresholds, and 6) optionally enabling remote unit power alarms after commissioning. An example configuration is provided to demonstrate how to apply the process.

STEP 4 and 5: TAPOI attenuation and STEP 3: STEP 2: STEP 1:

power limiter settings OTRX Pin measure OTRX target Pin RU target Pout

STEP 1 – DEFINE RU Pout TARGET BASED ON APPLICATION SCENARIO

Power/operat Power/tech
or

RU Pouttarget = RU Comp Pout-Attcustomer-10log10(#operators)-10log10(#carriers)-10log10(%tech)-DELTAPILOT -Margin

Power/carrier
Considered example:
a- Low Power Remote Unit  RU Comp Pout = 31 dBm composite
b- No additional attenuation requested by customer  ATTcustomer = 0 dB
c- 2 operators  - 3 dB RU Pouttarget = 16 dBm/c PILOT
d- 2 frequency carriers  - 3 dB
e- 100% of RU Power dedicated to WCDMA technology  0 dB
f- DELTAPILOT (assuming pilot @ 15% of full power) = -8dB
g- Margin = 1dB (suggestion based on the RU gain passband ripple reported in datasheet)

STEP 2 – COMPUTE Pin TARGET @ OTRX

RU Low Power DL Gain = 36dB

 Considered example: OTRX target Pin = RU Pouttarget - DLgain = 16dBm/c PILOT – 36dB = -20dBm/c PILOT

If CW test is performed through a portable signal generator:

- Put the signal generator at its max output power (i.e. 12 dBm)
- Put a physical attenuator to take the max power to -5dBm (i.e. 17 dB or higher)

STEP 3 – MEASURE Pin @ OTRX WITH TAPOI DEFAULT DL ATTENUATION SETTING

Considered example: OTRX Pinmeasured= - 40dBm/c PILOT (Spectrum Analyzer with demodulation feature is mandatory)

STEP 4 – SET TAPOI DL AND UL ATTENUATION

Considered example: Difference between target and measured OTRX Pin = -20 - (-40) = 20dB
 TAPOI DL ATTENUATION SETTING = TAPOI DEFAULT ATT DL – Difference target/measured = 31 – 20 = 11dB

For UL path, since:

Module DL Gain/Insertion Loss UL Gain/Insertion Loss
TAPOI (duplex mode) Insertion Loss = 7dB Insertion Loss = 9dB
TSC4W-U Insertion Loss = 7dB Insertion Loss = 7dB
TESA5-U Insertion Loss = 4dB Insertion Loss = 4dB
Low Power Remote Unit Gain = 36dB Gain = 47dB
Max System Gain
Gain = 18dB Gain = 27dB
(0dB attenuation)

 Max UL Gain is 9dB higher than DL Gain  If DL/UL Gain Balance is required

 UL ATTENUATION = TAPOI DL ATTENUATION + 9dB = 20dB split as below:

RU UL ATTENUATION = 11dB (default settings)

TAPOI UL ATTENUATION = 9dB

STEP 5 – TAPOI POWER LIMITER SETTING

Considered example:
A) TAPOI to OTRX DL Insertion loss (TAPOI at default DL attenuation setting):
TAPOI I.L. + TAPOI default DL att. + TSC4W-U I.L. + TESA5-U I.L. = 7 + 31 + 7 + 4 = 49dB

B) TAPOI DL Pin PILOTEstimation :

OTRX Pinmeasured + TAPOI-OTRX DL I.L. = - 40 + 49 = 9 dBm/c PILOT
Set the Min RMS Threshold lower than the above value (i.e. 6dB) and enable the DL Power IN Low alarm

TAPOI power limiter Min RMS Threshold = 3dBm

C) TAPOI Pin RMSEstimation:

B) + 10log10(#carriers) + deltaPILOT/full = 9 + 3 + 8 = 20dBm
 1dB margin  TAPOI power limiter Max RMS Threshold = 21dBm (max 30dBm)

Please note: Remote Unit DL Power High/Low alarm are factory- JMA TEKO commissioning tool automatically performs all the above
disabled in order to avoid alarms during power-on phase. calculation providing the system setting (attenuations and TAPOI
After the commissioning, as suggestion, enable the above alarm. power limiter thresholds)
