Bloom’s Digital Taxonomy Level(s):
Universal Design for Learning (UDL): The activity I selected includes a high-tech tool and a low-tech tool.
The high-tech tool is the iPad each group is given and the smart board for whole group activity time. The
low-tech tool is the physical globe pulled out at the beginning of the lesson. The instructional technology
implements e-book/e- references through access on the iPad through the ODDIZZI website. By allowing the
students to use this technology tool they are able to access to images of globes that they might not have
ever seen before. The students are also able interact in small groups to enhance their knowledge of the
globes by feeding off of what one another may have priorly known. The activities from the lesson target
those who are visual learners by displaying the maps on the screen. The lesson also appeals to those who
are kinesthetic learners since a physical globe is involved and the physical touching of the map on the
screen. The lesson also targets those who are auditory learners when items are selected and read back aloud
to them.
Lesson idea implementation: the class will review what a globe is a s a whole group lesson. A physical globe
will be brought out and passed around. Together the class will review that the world is a big place. The earth
is made up of two things, bodies of land called continents and bodies of water called oceans. Once the main
review is done the class will be put into small groups. Each small group will get an iPad. The website ODDIZZI
will be pre-logged in and have different maps of the globe pulled up. The students will have a chance to
explore and interact with the globes. They can click on the continents and learn their names or the bodies of
water. As they do so they will recite the names of what they click on. To wrap up the small group activity we
will come back together as a whole group with the website pulled up on the smart board and review the
globe together.
Reflective Practice: This lesson could be implemented at the beginning of the new curriculum. This lesson
allows the students to familiarize themselves with images of the globe. The students are also familiarized
with the images of continents and bodies of water on the globe. The students also learn the names that are
associated to those things as well. They also have access to the website ODDIZZI outside of the classroom
for further practice. The website allows them to not only transfer the information form the online globe to
that of the physical one in the classroom. This lesson could be used as a starter idea to introduce the new
content and as a checkpoint idea to see what all the student shave retained thus far.
