2 folder. Please go to page 1 of your module. React to this
message if you’re on page 1 already.

This week’s lesson is about “Developing a Statement of Opinion

or Assertion in Creating Effective Argument.”

Please read and understand the following:

COMPETENCY: Formulate a statement of opinion or assertion.

OBJECTIVES:
1. Identify if given statements are opinion or assertion.
2. Write a statement of opinion and assertion based on a
certain topic.
3. Recognize the importance of opinion and assertion in
presenting
arguments.

CONCEPT

Expressing oneself is an important aspect to develop

communicative and critical thinking skills.
Sometimes you may find yourself in a very difficult
situation like an argument where your view and belief in a
certain topic or idea is different from others.

An argument is an act where you express your point of

view
and support it with evidence. It can be done verbally or in
written form.

In this lesson, you will learn the difference between an

opinion and assertion. You will also develop a statement
of opinion or assertion to effectively express your idea.
Motivation Before we proceed to our lesson for today, I’d like you to
describe your Christmas vacation in one word. Raise your hand
if you want to share your answer.
[wait for students to respond]

Great! I’m glad you enjoyed your holidays with your families
and loved ones. 😊
Lesson Now that you have your own tablet, you may choose to type
your answers using Google docs or write your answer on a sheet
of paper. Make sure to compile all your outputs in one folder.

Proceed to Activity 1. Read the instructions carefully and write

your answer using the table provided. I’ll give you 10mins to
answer.

[after 10mins]

Let’s check and discuss your answers in Activity 1.

In Activity 1, you are asked to list down 5 conflicts you had with
your family and how you solved those problem. Who would like
to share and discuss their answers? Just give one example of
your problems and how did you solve it.

[wait for students to respond]

Arguments usually arise whenever we experience conflicts

within our family. Today, we’ll learn further what argument is
along with the terms related to it.

Now let’s read and study the definitions of the following terms
on pp. 2-3.
1. Argument
2. Opinion
3. Assertion
