Jibon RC-ShearWall

This document investigates the behavior of reinforced concrete shear walls with base openings subjected to seismic loading using nonlinear finite element analysis. It develops finite element models of shear walls with varying amounts of base opening from 0-80% to analyze their load carrying capacity and lateral displacement. The study finds that load carrying capacity and stiffness decrease as the percentage of base opening or number of stories increase. Openings greater than 60% significantly reduce capacity. Lateral displacement also rises with more opening or additional stories.

Objective Of The Study
 To develop finite element models of RC shear wall including
various base opening.

 To investigate the effect of various amount of base opening on

load carrying capacity and compare with solid shear wall.

 To analysis the sway pattern, and amount lateral displacement.

 To investigate the effect of variable number of floor in load

carrying capacity and lateral deflection.

CONCLUSIONS
 Load carrying capacity is higher for shear wall without opening.

 As the area of base opening increases the load carrying capacity

decreases.

 The percentage of base opening greater than 60% of that solid

shear wall must be avoided.

 Lateral displacement increases with the increases of percentage of

base opening.

 With the increases of the base opening of the multi storied building
percentage of reduction of load bearing capacity decreases,
although overall load bearing capacity is small.
