Focus Skill Reading
Content Standard 2.2 By the end of the 6-year primary schooling, pupils will be able to demonstrate
understanding of a variety of linear and non-linear texts in the form of print and non-
print materials using a range of strategies to construct meaning.
1.1 By the end of the 6-year primary schooling, pupils will be able to pronounce words and
speak confidently with the correct stress, rhythm and intonation.
Learning Standard 2.2.2 Able to read and understand phrases and sentences from (a) linear texts (b) non-linear
texts
1.1.2 Able to listen to and respond confidently to a given stimulus by using appropriate
words, phrases and expressions with the correct stress and intonation
Learning Objective By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to read about and name all the safety
features found around the school and talk about them.
Success Criteria Pupils are successful if they can:
1. identify and speak about 3 out of 6 safety features found in the school.
2. read and obtain information on at least 3 of 6 items about the safety features in and
outside the school.
3. ask and answer at least 2 questions about the safety features learnt using correct
sentence structure.
Activity Set Induction (5 min)
1. Pupils arrange pieces of a puzzle to form a picture of a safety feature around the
school and name it. - Exploration
2. Pupils discuss the safety measures and relate them with road safety measures learnt
in other subjects. (CCE- PKJR) – Engagement / Explanation
Activity 1 (25 min)
3. Pupils are given a short text with a picture about the safety features around the
school. In groups, they read and discuss the content of the text with guided
questions displayed by the teacher. They collaborate to get information on all the 6
safety measures through One Stay, Three Stray. (Pupils complete a table with the
information.) – Engagement / Explanation
Pupils are assessed in their ability to talk about the text and gather information on
the other safety features. - Evaluation
4. Pupils are asked the HOTs question at this point. - Exploration / Elaboration
Activity 2 (20 min)
5. One representative from each group takes turns to sit on the Hot Seat. Pupils from
other groups ask questions, using correct sentence structure, about what the
‘candidate ‘ is thinking. The ‘candidate’ answers by only using ‘Yes, I have’ or ‘Yes, it
is’ etc. (The starting words for the questions are provided as reference.) -

Pupils are assessed in their ability to ask questions using correct sentence structure.

Plenary (10 min)
6. Pupils play ‘Spell It’ using the words learnt. Pupils from one group asks another
group to spell a word. The whole group has to spell correctly. - Engagement /

HOTs / CCE Do people really follow rules that are stated? What would happen if rules are not followed?
Pupils relate to road safety in Bahasa Melayu (PKJR).
