2. The magnetic flux density in air due to a current source is measured as given below. Find
the circulation of the magnetic flux density along a circle x2 + y 2 = 1. Also, find ∇ × B.
x y
B = Bo 2 uy − 2 ux
x + y2 x + y2
3. The electric field intensity in air is given by E = rt.exp(−r − t)uφ (cylindrical coordinates).
Find the magnetic flux density B.
4. The electric field within a free space cylindrical region ρ < b increases exponentially with time
as E = Eo ekt uz , where Eo is a constant. Find the magnetic field (time varying component)
in this region.
5. In order to study the effect of power lines on the human body a particular case is considered.
A power line is assumed to be as close as 20m to a human, standing on the ground. Assume
the human head as a sphere with radius of 10cm. What will be the r.m.s. value (magnitude)
of the voltage due to the induced electric field across a single cell (which is about 10mm wide)
on the circumference of the largest cross section of the head (as shown in figure), if a sinusoidal
current flowing through the power line is of 100A (peak) and 60Hz. Assume the electric field
induced on the circumference of head is almost constant. Is this induced voltage harmful to
the human body if the normal neural impulses that pass through the cells are spikes on the
order of 100mV in amplitude? Assume the displacement current in the space is negligibly
small since the frequency is low.
6. Due to an electromagnetic source, the scalar√electric potential and vector magnetic poten-
√
tial developed in free space are 4 cos ω(t − z µo o ) V and 5 sin ω(t − z µo o ) ux Wb/m
respectively. Find the induced electric field intensity in that free space region.
7. Determine the mutual inductance between a very long, straight wire and a conducting circular
loop. Assume the loop is of radius b and the center of the loop is at a distance d from the
straight line wire.
8. The magnetic flux density due to a circular loop of current (as shown in figure) is given by
µ0 Ib2
B1 = [2 cos(θ)ur + sin(θ)uθ ]

Show that the mutual inductance between two coaxial coplanar circular loops of radii r1 and
πµo r12 r22
r2 respectively is approximately 2D 3 , where D the distance between the loops is very large
compared to loop radii.
9. Determine the inductance per unit length of (i) coaxial cable (ii) two wire transmission line.
10. If a rectangular loop of sides a and b recedes with a constant velocity v from a very long
straight conductor carrying a steady current I as shown, determine the electromotive force
induced in the loop as a function of time. Assume that at time t = 0, the distance to the left
side of the loop from the conductor is r = ro
